Tyrone Tracy Injury Update: Latest on the Giants RB and His Week 3 Availability vs. the Chiefs

New York Giants running back Tyron Tracy popped up on Wednesday's injury report as limited in practice. His usage in Week 3 is up in the air.

The New York Giants had quite a day in their Week 2 matchup against their narrow 40-37 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in OT. The Giants ran up 506 yards on offense, their best performance since 2019.

However, New York Giants second-year running back Tyrone Tracy could only contribute five carries for 15 yards. He was a little more productive through the air, catching four passes for 36 yards. But this year, he’s only compiled 15 total carries on the ground for 39 yards, six receptions for 47 yards, and no touchdowns across two games.

Will Tyrone Tracy Play in Week 3?

Tracy was listed on the Giants’ injury report on Wednesday as limited in practice, which raises the question of how much he will play in Week 3.

Tracy’s calf injury is tricky and may have contributed to his usage against Dallas. He handled a 74 percent snap share in the Giants’ Week 1 loss against the Washington Commanders. In Week 2, Tracy took only 42 percent of the team’s snaps.

Rookie running back Cam Skattebo took advantage of his opportunities against the Cowboys to garner 11 carries for 45 yards and his first career rushing touchdown. His usage rate jumped from 12 percent in Week 1 to 52 percent in Week 2.

Regardless of Tracy’s health, Skattebo quickly established himself as a fan favorite in the preseason with his dogged running style, hard-nosed play, and humble attitude. The rookie out of Arizona State could see more opportunities as the season goes along. If Tracy’s playing status is negatively affected, he could see more opportunities ceded to Skattebo.

Tracy has been underwhelming in 2025 so far, but he had a really solid 2024. He was a fifth-round rookie who earned himself the starting job. He had 192 carries for 839 yards and five rushing touchdowns. He also added 38 receptions for 284 yards and a receiving touchdown.

However, Tracy has been unable to rush for more than 59 yards in his last nine games since 2024. His last 100-yard game was in Week 10 of 2024 in a 20-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

In theory, Tracy and Skattebo could be a nice one-two punch. Tracy has game-breaking speed, and Skattebo plays like a bowling ball with legs, while Tracy seems the better option catching passes out of the backfield. It’s mainly a matter of health, and head coach Brian Daboll is figuring out how to use them complementarily.
