The Miami Dolphins were threatening to implode earlier in the offseason. With the long-term health of Tua Tagovailoa an ongoing concern, multiple other key players were looking for the exit door. Jalen Ramsey and Terron Armstead left via a trade and retirement, respectively, but perhaps the most notable wantaway star is still in the building.
After Tagovailoa condemned Hill’s actions, the receiver was asked for his feelings on being called out so directly by a teammate.
Tyreek Hill Speaks On Tua Tagovailoa Criticism Following Ugly End-Of-Season Rant
It’s not often that teammates criticize each other in the press, but Hill’s rant following the team’s final game of the 2024 season has been impossible for some to avoid. Tagovailoa didn’t hold back when addressing his teammate’s outburst, during which the receiver stated that he needed to put his career above the needs of a team.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Hill signaled his intention to leave Miami, claiming to be unwilling to play on a team that wasn’t competing for Super Bowls.

“I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
The five-time first-team All-Pro has spent the summer trying to make up for his rant, but Tagovailoa stated that words wouldn’t be enough when asked for his thoughts.
“I’m not the only one who heard that. You guys aren’t the only people who heard that. A lot of people who follow football, who follow the Miami Dolphins, who follow Tyreek, who are fans of his, everyone has seen that.”
“So, when you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, ‘Hey, my bad.’ You’ve got to work that relationship up; you’ve got to build everything up again.”
Tua: “When you say something like that you don’t just come back with ‘My Bad.’ You gotta work that relationship up. He’s working on himself.”

Hill is one of the most feared receivers in the NFL. His blistering speed is a constant nightmare for opposing defenses. After a down year in 2024, the player is looking forward to proving himself this season, both on and off the field.
Asked about his quarterback’s comments, the former Kansas City Chiefs star gave a humble response.
“I think Tua’s comments were needed,” he said. “He’s obviously the leader of our team, so he sets the standard. So, I’m just trying to be the best teammate, the best version of myself for this time I can be, every day.”

Humble isn’t a word that has been used to describe Hill since the Chiefs drafted him in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The player’s apparent change of tone will be a welcome one for Dolphins fans after he appeared dead set on leaving this offseason.
Miami will need Hill at his best in 2025, and if Tagovailoa can stay healthy, the team could be returning to the playoffs in January.
