Chiefs’ Super Bowl Champion Makes Feelings Clear on Potential Tyreek Hill Reunion

With Tyreek Hill a free agent, a former Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Champion thinks Hill could be in the perfect spot for a reunion with his former team.

Former Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill is a free agent for the first time in his career after the Dolphins released him earlier this week.

Is a reunion in Kansas City coming? Hill spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Chiefs and won a Super Bowl. One former teammate of Hill’s believes a reunion could be exactly what both sides need.

Tyrann Mathieu Gives His Opinion on a Chiefs-Tyreek Hill Reunion

Mathieu and Hill spent three years together in Kansas City, where they won the Super Bowl after the 2019 season.

While Mathieu went to the New Orleans Saints in 2022 and spent the last three years of his career there, Hill went to the Dolphins and spent the last four years in Miami.

Now, the five-time All-Pro receiver is a free agent, and Mathieu thinks a reunion with the Chiefs is definitely in the cards.

“I think the next best thing for him to do is to find a quarterback and an offensive coordinator that likes him, that appreciates his talents, his gifts,” Mathieu said on his “In the Bayou” podcast. “I’m sure a lot of people gonna talk about K.C. I don’t count that out.”

Part of Hill’s downside has been his behavior off the field. There were concerns around the Dolphins’ culture throughout the receiver’s tenure.

However, Mathieu thinks a change in scenery may be exactly what Hill needs to get back on track.

“It’s hard to get in trouble in Kansas City. Kansas City is not Miami. So maybe that’s something he needs to get back to the Midwest and to play for a coach that believe you,” Mathieu said. “You got everything in place for you to sort of succeed.

“I’m not counting him out. I’m not counting him out coming back, being just as dominant as he was before.”

While Mathieu thinks the change in location would benefit Hill and his familiarity with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ coaching staff, he also thinks Kansas City’s current receiver situation is a great place to re-insert Hill.

The Chiefs have seen the emergence of receiver Rashee Rice, and Xavier Worthy has shown flashes, but nothing like what Hill provided during his tenure.

“Given the guys that they have on a roster now, he might be the person to sort of lift those guys’ play,” Mathieu said. “Because we talked about Xavier Worthy. A lot of these other kids that they just haven’t figured it out yet, right? And one of the things that impressed me the most with Tyreek was he was just like me. He’s a football player.

“He don’t miss practice, right? Like he gonna take all his reps. He don’t miss no games. And I think given what the Chiefs have sort of experienced the last three years at the Y receiver position, he may be the next best teacher for them.”

Hill’s maturity and veteran leadership have been questioned throughout his career. But maybe a reunion with coach Andy Reid and Mahomes is exactly what the talented receiver needs.

He could get himself back to playing at the top of his game and help the young core in Kansas City grow into the receivers they are meant to be over the next few years.
