The Miami Dolphins kicked off their 2025 season with a disaster. Sunday’s crushing 33-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts revealed a disorganized team without direction.
Now, the situation is getting even more complicated for star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. After he was seen visibly frustrated on the sideline, the trade rumors that swirled all offseason are already firing back up, creating a major question just one week into the season.
Where Could Tyreek Hill Be Traded This Season?
Hill joined the Dolphins in 2022 as a superstar, and his impact was immediate. He delivered the two best seasons of his career, surpassing 1,700 receiving yards in both 2022 and 2023. However, the team’s internal issues and on-field decline led to a disappointing 2024 campaign for Hill, which set a tense tone heading into the 2025 season.
Despite the friction, the receiver chose to stay. The critical comments he made after Miami’s final game in 2024 were seemingly put aside, and the Dolphins entered Week 1 with expectations much higher than what they showed against the Colts.
Hill’s frustration was obvious during the game, and it’s difficult to ignore that he wanted out just a few months ago.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, two specific AFC teams are worth watching as potential trade partners before the deadline: the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Florio explained the logic behind a potential reunion in Kansas City, writing, “First, the Chiefs. For obvious reasons. Hill starred in Kansas City until his desire for more money (and perhaps to not be in the shadow of Patrick Mahomes and/or Travis Kelce) sparked a trade. During his apology tour in advance of Super Bowl LIX, Hill admitted on PFT Live that he sometimes regrets leaving the Chiefs.”
A return to the Chiefs would make a lot of sense. The team’s offense lacks a true star playmaker outside of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a weakness that was on display in their season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Additionally, Florio identified a second contender in the mix.
“Second, the Steelers. There’s already chatter, in the aftermath of Sunday’s win over the Jets, that the all-in Steelers could go even more all-in by making a move for Hill. Yes, Pittsburgh already has receiver DK Metcalf, who’s making $30 million per year on a five-year deal. But the Steelers don’t have a clear-cut No. 2. Hill would be 1b (if not, at times, 1a) to Metcalf.”
For Pittsburgh, he would provide a deep threat that the offense currently lacks. Even a star like Metcalf was more effective after the catch than as a consistent downfield weapon in the opener.
Hill would give the Steelers the ability to unlock explosive plays. Even if he isn’t just stretching the field, his explosiveness with the ball in his hands fits perfectly into Arthur Smith’s system. In either scenario, Hill’s impact would be immediate.
After such a deflating Week 1 loss, Miami’s path forward is completely uncertain. The atmosphere around the team already feels like the end of an era, not the beginning of a season. If Hill truly wants out, this could be the franchise’s last chance to get significant value for a player who was once its brightest star.
