The Tyreek Hill situation has been going on for some time with the Miami Dolphins. After his seemingly direct trade demand, the superstar wide receiver tried to backtrack and remain with the organization. So far, a trade hasn’t materialized, but the atmosphere in the Miami locker room is nothing short of tense. Already, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has made it clear that he isn’t welcoming Hill back with open arms.
Rather than letting bygones be bygones, he wants his pass catcher to rebuild the relationship with the entire locker room. From all accounts, it looks like Hill has been doing just that as we draw closer to the 2025 NFL season. As a result, it looks like Tagovailoa’s stance has also softened somewhat.
Where Do Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill Stand With Each Other?
When Hill first asked for a trade out of Miami, it seemed like a clear shot at his quarterback, as he pointed to his own numbers and the lack of team success after the Dolphins missed the playoffs for the first time since he arrived on the scene in 2022.
Over the summer, his stance changed, and he wanted to remain with the franchise. But Tagovailoa, in an earlier interview, made it clear that it would take time for Hill to make amends. “You’ve got to work that relationship up; you’ve got to build everything up again.”
That was about as direct as Tagovailoa could get. But now that training camp is nearing its conclusion and the start of preseason is less than a week away, things are starting to look a bit more optimistic for the Dolphins locker room.
Sitting with Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network, Tagovailoa revealed how his relationship with Hill is evolving after his comments in the locker room. “Could it have been in the heat of the moment? Sure, you can say that. But, at the end of the day, it came out.”
For the former league leader in passer rating, the public nature of the comments that aired the team’s dirty laundry to anyone and everyone listening was the biggest issue, especially when Hill knew about the stir his comments would cause.
However, he was willing to give Cheetah another chance. “Tyreek is going through his own phase of who he wants to become as a man in this league, who he wants to become as a father for his kids. As a result, he believes, “It is never too late for anybody to want to change.”

As Hill tries to alter his approach and mentality, Tagovailoa admits, “We’re still trying to build that relationship.” During that process, he doesn’t view his comments as shots at Hill. Instead, he believes he’s just trying to hold his teammate “accountable” as the quarterback and leader of the roster.
There are clearly still a few wrinkles that the Dolphins need to work out. But we’ve seen how potent this team can be when firing on all cylinders. Now the team has to hope that Tagovailoa and Hill can hash out their differences and potentially deliver their best year yet.
