Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has offered his take on the future of star defensive back Trevon Diggs. There has been considerable speculation about whether Dallas will retain Diggs after the November 4 NFL trade deadline. Diggs has not been the impact player he once was. The former second-round NFL Draft pick was, at one time, an interception machine for the Dallas secondary.
However, after signing his contract extension in 2023, Diggs has struggled to remain healthy. He has also failed to mirror the same impact he had in the secondary before signing his five–year, $97 million contract extension.
Jerry Jones comments on Trevon Diggs’ future with Dallas
Today, Jones spoke on 105.3 The Fan to discuss the club’s 44-24 defeat to the Denver Broncos in Week 8. Regarding Diggs’ future, Jones doesn’t feel that Diggs has played his final game for the team. He did, however, comment on Diggs’ inability to stay healthy.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan when asked if he thinks CB Trevon Diggs has played his last game for the Cowboys: “I don’t see that today at all.”
“He’s got to get well, and he hasn’t been.”

Diggs tore his ACL in 2023, shortly after signing his major contract extension with the Cowboys, and missed 15 games that year. Last season, Diggs missed six games and ultimately required a chondral-tissue graft in January.
He didn’t help matters by opting not to participate in Dallas’ offseason programs, seeing a $500,000 reduction in his base salary as a penalty. Last week, Diggs suffered a concussion in an accident at his home. He missed the Cowboys’ game against the Washington Commanders and was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Through six games played, Diggs has not yet recorded an interception in 2025. Dallas hasn’t asked Diggs to play to his strength, that being man coverage, in the first half of this season. According to ESPN, the Cowboys have run zone coverage 82% of the time through their first six games.
Now being on injured reserve, Diggs will miss a minimum of the next four games and will be eligible to return against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving. With Diggs now on the sideline, it will be up to Kaiir Elam and DaRon Bland to anchor an already struggling Dallas defense in the secondary moving forward.
Dallas has already traded one defensive superstar in Micah Parsons this year. Perhaps Diggs will be the next to be moved before the trade deadline on November 4.
