NFL Coordinator Reveals ‘Primary Concern’ for Trevon Diggs As Cowboys Star Gets Snubbed From Top-10 CB Rankings

NFL coordinator says Trevon Diggs has improved as a CB but injuries are now the primary concern after he dropped from ESPN's top 10 list.

Trevon Diggs was once the NFL’s interception king. After leading the league in picks during his sophomore year and earning back-to-back Pro Bowl selections, he landed a massive five-year, $97 million contract extension.

But now? He’s not even cracking the top 10 cornerback rankings, and his injury-plagued career has left Dallas wondering if their investment will ever pay off.

Why Are NFL Coordinators Concerned About Diggs’ Injury History?

ESPN recently released its list of top 10 corners in the league, and Diggs was nowhere to be found. He wasn’t even among the honorable mentions and didn’t make the PFSN’s list of Top 100 NFL Players in 2025.

One anonymous NFL coordinator weighed in on Diggs’ career trajectory and acknowledged the 26-year-old had improved over the last five years, but his injury history was the primary concern.

“I think he’s made improvements as a corner. He always had the ball skills. Discipline is a little bit better. The injuries are now the primary concern,” they said.

The concerns are well-founded. Diggs has suffered season-ending injuries in back-to-back years, both on the same knee. He played just two games in 2023 before tearing his ACL during a practice session ahead of Week 3.

Diggs returned to the gridiron for the 2024 NFL season opener, but his struggles continued. He missed Week 12 and Week 13 due to a groin injury and was later ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury on the same left leg. Through the 11 games he played, he recorded 35 solo tackles and 11 pass deflections alongside two picks.

Since signing his massive extension, Diggs has recorded as many interceptions as he did in his rookie year alone and will no longer be among the top 10 corners in the league in 2025.

When Will Diggs Return From Injury?

Diggs’ absence has marked the Cowboys’ offseason. He missed the first two phases of the team’s offseason program and was absent from organized team activities.

While he was present during the mandatory minicamp, he didn’t participate in any on-field activities and was docked $500,000 for his “failure to complete at least 84% of his offseason workouts.”

Despite the setbacks, Diggs has been working hard on making a comeback. He was recently seen making strong runs on the field while working with strength and conditioning specialist Dr. Sharif Tabbah at Alkeme Sports Rx in Florida.

Cowboys insider Calvin Watkins reported last month that Diggs aimed to return in Week 1 of the 2025 season. However, given the back-to-back injuries on the same knee, Dallas might not want to take a risk and would likely be patient with his return.
