The New England Patriots had a lot of hopes for this offseason. After a promising first year from Drake Maye, the organization made a myriad of changes to ensure his success heading into his second year in the NFL. Some of the changes they made included installing Mike Vrabel as the new head coach, key additions to the offensive line, and weapons for Maye.
However, a big part of their roster turnaround was the addition of TreVeyon Henderson to the backfield. Taken in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Patriots have high expectations for the dual-threat running back. In Week 1 against the Washington Commanders, he already proved his worth in short order. But in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings, will head coach Mike Vrabel send him out on the field again?
Will TreVeyon Henderson Suit Up Against the Vikings?
To begin his official NFL career, albeit in preseason, Henderson returned a kick in the end zone and immediately ran the length of the field to secure a 100-yard touchdown. It put New England on the board early against Washington, and they never looked back.
Winning 48-18 was a dominant showing from Vrabel’s squad. Outside of that spectacular return, he had one carry for 18 yards and three catches for 12 yards. But his impressive play wasn’t limited to that one day.
During joint practices against Minnesota, his star has shone brighter than virtually any other Patriot, leading to widespread appreciation from his teammates and coaches alike. One play, in particular, though, caught everyone’s attention.
As Yahoo Sports reported, “He reeled in all four targets sent his way in 11-on-11 periods, including a 60-yard catch-and-run touchdown when he out-raced the angles of Vikings defensive backs down the sideline to cap a two-play two-minute drill when the Patriots needed a field-goal to tie.”
For anyone following his career out of Ohio State, it is a sight you are likely familiar with. In three separate years, Henderson crossed the 900 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns mark, while also showing versatility as a pass catcher out of the backfield.
While his status for the game against the Vikings isn’t fully confirmed, it is possible that he gets some action on the field once again. But for a player destined for a heavy workload, it might be in Vrabel’s best interest to avoid risking injury with excessive burn before the season truly begins.
