KC Chiefs TE Travis Kelce Blends Work and Personal Lives With Taylor Swift
In essence and execution, being a great football player is a job that extends far outside the boundaries of the field. Fans hang on every word and photo. Now, add in dating the most popular singer on the planet. That, in a nutshell, is Kelce’s life. A tight end, headed to the Hall of Fame five years after his retirement, is living a public existence. In a recent article with GQ, Kelce detailed how his relationship and work life meld together.
“I get to be the plus one,” he says. “I get to go and be that fan. Because I am a fan. I’m a fan of music. I’m a fan of art. And it’s so cool that I get to experience her being that plus one for me on the football field…. I feel that same enjoyment every time she comes to my shows.”
Earlier, during the offseason, Swift joined Kelce in Nashville at Tight End University, a training camp and charity fundraiser Kelce co-founded with George Kittle and Greg Olsen, and put on an impromptu performance. “I sort of made her a football fan,” Kelce says. “She is the most engulfed fan now.”
“She knows what the injury reports look like. She understands what special situations are, third and short — all these things because she just naturally loves to hear about my job.”
However, Swift and Kelce’s relationship is not without criticism. Swift appears in the box seats section, along with Kelce’s family, during games. Networks see this as a prime opportunity to capitalize on and showcase her on television. Hardcore fans and critics alike thought this process was unacceptable and lashed out not only at the couple but also at the networks that frequently showed Swift cheering.
Additionally, Swift looks like she fully embraced the football lifestyle. On a recent episode of “The Heights” podcast, hosted by Kelce and his brother, former Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro center Jason, she announced the release of her last album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” displaying a synergy between mixing business and personal.
