Is Travis Kelce Injured? Breaking Down if the Chiefs Superstar Is Hurt Amid Slow Start vs. Bills

In one of the biggest games on the NFL calendar, the Kansas City Chiefs were taking on the Buffalo Bills for the 10th time since Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes became the two teams’ starting quarterbacks. The first half, as advertised, was as competitive as it could get.

Even though the Bills walked into the break with a 21-13 lead, it was hard to claim that any team had a distinct advantage. For the road time, though, one of the biggest hurdles had been a subpar outing for their superstar tight end, Travis Kelce.

    What Happened to Travis Kelce?

With the obituaries being written about his career, a slow start to the 2025 season had further raised questions about Kelce and his performance. However, as the receiving core for Kansas City improved, his production saw a noticeable uptick.

Over the last four weeks, he had more than 50 receiving yards in each game with two touchdowns, including his best game of the season in Week 8 when he tallied 99 yards and a touchdown as the Chiefs won 28-7 against the Washington Commanders.

But in the first half against Buffalo, it was an astoundingly quiet night for the three-time Super Bowl champion. Targeted just twice, his lone reception came with less than a minute remaining in the period, as he added 20 yards to help set up a field goal to end the half.

That field goal could have been a touchdown conversion for Kelce, though, as Mahomes targeted him in the end zone on a third-and-goal attempt. However, the pass came out a little too early and flew behind the veteran tight end.

On the play, though, he was blasted from both sides, with a particularly brutal hit to his front, causing him to go back to the locker room with a chest injury. Thankfully, it didn’t turn out to be anything serious, and the third-ranked tight end on PFSN’s TE Impact was back on the field for the Chiefs in the second half.

In the second half, Kelce had a far more productive outing, adding three more receptions to his tally for 46 yards to finish with 66 receiving yards on the night. He was also the recipient of the two-point conversion from Mahomes.

However, it ultimately proved to be fool’s gold, as Kansas City fell 28-21, as an interception from the two-time MVP with less than five minutes remaining in the game proved to be the difference in the encounter.
