How Old Is Travis Kelce? A Look at the 10-Time Pro Bowler’s Age and Legendary Chiefs Career

Travis Kelce turns 35 in October and weighs retirement after his worst NFL season, with reports suggesting 2025 could be his final year.

Very few would argue against the fact that Travis Kelce is one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. But he is no longer the best in the league as age catches up with him, and now there are rumblings that 2025 might be his final season.

Even so, Kelce’s résumé speaks for itself. A 10-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion, he has been at the heart of the Kansas City Chiefs’ dynasty, forming an iconic partnership with Patrick Mahomes and redefining what it means to play tight end. Travis Kelce’s Age

Travis Kelce was born in Westlake, Ohio, on October 5, 1989, making him 35 years old. He began his football journey as a high school quarterback before switching to tight end during his college career at the University of Cincinnati. Staying close to home made sense for the Kelce family, as his older brother Jason also played for the Bearcats before carving out his legendary NFL career.

Kelce wasn’t considered a can’t-miss prospect coming out of college, mainly due to a suspension that raised questions about his discipline. Even so, Andy Reid and the Chiefs saw his potential and selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

That gamble has paid off historically, with Kelce developing into one of the greatest tight ends the league has ever seen.

Travis Kelce Career Highlights

Kelce played just a single snap as a rookie before starting to put up the numbers we have gotten used to in 2014. He scored his first touchdown in Week 3 of the 2014 season against the Miami Dolphins and has since added 77 more to his name, in addition to 12,000+ receiving yards.

Kelce quickly grew into one of the Chiefs’ most reliable weapons, posting 862 yards and five touchdowns in his first full season as a starter. He racked up another 850-yardish season the following year before stringing together seven straight 1,000-yard seasons, something no other tight end in NFL history has ever done.

His dominance hasn’t just been in the regular season. Kelce has been at his very best under the bright lights of the playoffs. Chiefs fans will never forget his clutch catch to set up Harrison Butker’s game-tying field goal in the “13 seconds” game against the Buffalo Bills, or the game-winning score he delivered in overtime to seal that instant classic.

On the biggest stage, Kelce has repeatedly risen to the occasion. He hauled in a touchdown in Super Bowl LIV against the 49ers to spark Kansas City’s comeback win, and again found the end zone in Super Bowl LVII as the Chiefs rallied past the Eagles.

However, Kelce’s production has dipped in recent years, with 2024 standing out as one of his most challenging seasons.

Retirement rumors began swirling after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl defeat, but he ultimately decided to return for the 2025 campaign. Now, as he approaches 36 and prepares for married life with Taylor Swift, there’s a growing belief that this season could be his last. Even ESPN’s Nate Taylor has hinted that the end of Kelce’s legendary career might be near.
