‘It Was a Tough Spot’ – Dallas Goedert Makes Feelings Clear on Contract Saga With Eagles After Super Bowl Win

After eight years together, a potential exit over contract was out of the question for veteran Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert.

An underrated part of the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2024 season was the work from their tight end, Dallas Goedert. Their insane defense, a legendary year from Saquon Barkley, which may be on the short list of greatest running back seasons ever, Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts, and their superstar wide receivers received all the attention. But whenever they needed a play, Goedert was always there.

That long list of talent also required a lot of money, and perhaps not enough to go around for the tight end. As a result, the entire summer saw no conclusion in the negotiations between the Eagles and Goedert. The South Dakota State product will return to Philadelphia with just one year left on his deal.

Now, he’s revealing what went down in the negotiations.

Were There Hurt Feelings for Eagles’ Dallas Goedert?

Since joining the league in 2018 as a second-round pick, Goedert has been a steady presence for the Eagles, both on the field and in the locker room. Even though injuries have limited him virtually every season, he has some strong production under his belt.

Last year, he appeared in 10 regular-season games, tallying 496 yards (third-highest on the team) and two touchdowns. On top of that, he was a part of their entire Super Bowl run, putting up 215 yards in four postseason games.

The beginning of the offseason seemed to be the end of the Goedert and Philly pairing. With financial constraints and his injury concerns, the Eagles examined trade offers this offseason. It appeared that the Eagles were ready to move on, but a trade failed to materialize.

Eventually, the two sides agreed to a $10 million deal for one season only, something that isn’t lost on the 30-year-old. Talking to RG, Goedert made clear how much being an Eagle meant to him and the lengths he went to secure the deal.

“I have all the belief in myself. I talked to my agent a lot,” Goedert said. “It was a tough spot. I was in the last year of my deal without any guarantee, so the team had a lot of the power over me. I was really happy with the way it worked out. I’m happy that I got to stay an Eagle.”

However, the goal is also pretty clear, because he knows what’s at stake. “I got to stay healthy this year and go play really good football, and who knows what’s in store for me after that.” For the 2025 season, though, there was no place Goedert would rather be.

“It wouldn’t have felt right leaving Philadelphia and watching them try to defend the title and not be part of it,” Goedert added. “Told my agent, ‘Whatever we have to do to make it work, let’s make sure I’m back in the midnight green.'”

The quest to defend their championship kicks off in Week 1 in one of the most storied rivalries in the sport. The Eagles will take on divisional rivals and “America’s Team”, the Dallas Cowboys.

But for a player and team looking to become the third team this century to repeat, Week 1 is only the beginning.
