Top 2026 NFL Draft Prospects
I use my sub-trait grade framework to sort players into brackets, and then have the autonomy to sort players within those brackets based on other notable factors such as production, medicals, off-field history, and more.
The 2025 college football season has already given us countless NFL Draft developments to monitor, and we’ll have plenty of time to go over them all as the season progresses. Today, we’ll focus on the burgeoning battle for WR1.
In the preseason and in the early weeks of the season, Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson remained my WR1, and he’s still very much in the conversation. But recent grading updates have given Ohio State’s Carnell Tate the slight edge, with Makai Lemon trailing as WR3 — but still a top-15 player.
The battle is as close as can be; Tate and Lemon have virtually identical PFSN WR Impact scores of 84.1 and 84.2 respectively, while Tyson isn’t far behind with a figure of 81.4. They’ve all been exceptional week in and week out, but Tate’s domination has been impossible to ignore — and it’s easy to see how he translates.
At 6’3″, 195 pounds, Tate has the requisite size and athleticism, and he’s such a sound operator — both as a route runner and catch-point convertor. He’s feasted on vertical concepts this year, but he can sink his hips, reduce on transitions, and feign intent with rapid response at breaks, and he’s a high-level route craftsman with all the soft skills.
Tate has the best situation of the three with Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith; that much is also true. But factor in Tyson’s medical question marks and Lemon’s decreased boundary versatility, and Tate profiles as perhaps the best WR1 candidate among the trio.
There’s still a long way to go before grades are settled, but at the moment, Tate has slightly out-graded the other two for my current WR1 spot. Others like Chris Bell and KC Concepcion continue to keep the gap tenable with their exceptional play, but for WR1, it’s a three-man race.
