Tom Brady is widely considered to be the greatest quarterback in NFL history. He walked away from football after the 2022 season, ending a legendary 23-year career. The former sixth-round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft rewrote the record books, throwing for an NFL-record 89,214 yards and 649 touchdowns, with 212 interceptions, while completing 64.3% of his passes.
He was also able to win seven Super Bowl titles, five of which saw him named Super Bowl MVP – both also NFL records. Brady was also the only quarterback to win a Super Bowl in both the AFC and NFC, winning six with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Despite his stronghold on the league’s record books, there are many who believe that Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes will eventually surpass Brady as the league’s greatest quarterback. The 15-time Pro Bowler recently shared his thoughts on the topic.
Tom Brady Weighs In on Patrick Mahomes’ Comparisons
Mahomes has seemingly drawn comparisons to Brady since the moment he took over as a full-time starter. Due to his three Super Bowl titles and elite play, there are many who believe that the Chiefs star is well on his way to becoming the greatest quarterback of all-time.
Brady recently discussed the comparisons while card shopping with Complex. What he said showed his glowing endorsement of the Chiefs star’s pursuit of that label.
“If he does break the record and even last year, they had a chance to go for a three-peat, I would have been so happy to be there to watch it. When you accomplish a lot – and I was very fortunate to do that – you have people that are doing incredible things. And I always think we should talk about those things, how remarkable they really are, because that’s really what’s inspiring about it. You want other people to always see what you’re doing and you set a certain bar and then they go after it,” he said at the 12:38 mark.
Mahomes has already played in five Super Bowls in seven seasons as a starter. He has reached the AFC Championship Game in each of those seven years. Brady, however, does have one advantage that the six-time Pro Bowler cannot compete with.
The then-Patriots quarterback ended Mahomes and the Chiefs 2018 season with a 37-31 overtime victory in the AFC Championship Game. Two years later, this time with the Buccaneers, Brady once again got the best of Mahomes and the Chiefs, beating them 31-9 in Super Bowl 55.
