NFL Legend Tom Brady Takes Dig at Pro Bowl While Hyping Up Fanatics Flag Football Classic in Saudi Arabia

Tom Brady has never been particularly good at doing things halfway. Not championships. Not comebacks. And not retirement.

Tom Brady has never been particularly good at doing things halfway. Not championships. Not comebacks. And apparently not retirement. So it tracks that as he prepares to headline the Fanatics Flag Football Classic in Riyadh this March, he’s not selling it as a cute offseason diversion. He’s selling it as war — the friendly, non-tackling kind, but war nonetheless.

Tom Brady Underscores ‘Real Competition’ Ahead of Saudi Flag Football Classic

On a recent appearance on the “Impaulsive” podcast with Logan Paul, Tom Brady spoke about the March 21 game with the kind of intensity that usually precedes a playoff game.

“Honestly, this is like real football. This is real competition” he said.

When Paul compared the event to the Pro Bowl, Brady didn’t miss a beat, saying, “It’s gonna be way better than that.”

“I’m glad you’re gonna be there,” Brady told Paul, “and I’m glad you’re finally gonna participate in, like, a competition that matters.”

It was not outright dismissal, but it did not need to be. The Pro Bowl’s reputation as more relaxed than a hard-nosed contest has been well documented in recent years. Brady, who built his legacy on postseason intensity, appears intent on ensuring no one mistakes the Fanatics Flag Football Classic for a leisurely exhibition.

The event itself is far from small-scale. Scheduled for Kingdom Arena in Riyadh as part of Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Season festivities, the tournament is positioned as a global showcase for flag football, particularly with the sport set to make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles in 2028. Brady is partnering with Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority, to stage the event.

The player roster resembles a fantasy draft assembled without compromise: Christian McCaffrey, CeeDee Lamb, Rob Gronkowski, Saquon Barkley, Brock Bowers, Myles Garrett, Sauce Gardner, Odell Beckham Jr., Tyreek Hill, and Maxx Crosby.

Add in coaches such as Pete Carroll, Sean Payton, and Kyle Shanahan. Fox Sports and Tubi will carry the broadcast, with Kevin Hart contributing to the entertainment side.

Flag football may remove tackling, but it does not eliminate risk: sharp cuts, sudden stops, awkward pivots. Nevertheless, Brady appears invigorated. He has spoken about wanting “the competitive juices flowing” again and about helping elevate flag football’s profile worldwide. There is something fitting about that. He intends to compete. And if you are on his team, he expects you to do the same.
