Titans Are Planning to Interview 2-Time Super Bowl-Champion Coach

According to Jordan Schultz, the Tennessee Titans have requested permission to interview Matt Nagy, the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, for their vacant head coaching position. The move signals an early and proactive approach as Tennessee looks ahead to the 2026 season.

Matt Nagy is a free agent. His contract is essentially up with the Chiefs. From their time in KC, there is obviously a very good relationship between Nagy and Titans GM Mike Borgonzi. The two know each other well, and Borgonzi has had a front row seat as Nagy has been preparing for another HC opportunity.

As part of the Chiefs’ coaching staff, he has been involved in multiple Super Bowl runs. He has earned two championship rings, working closely with Andy Reid’s offensive system in 2022 and 2023.

His familiarity with elite quarterback play, modern offensive concepts, and week-to-week preparation at the highest level has kept his name at the forefront in league coaching circles.

This isn’t Nagy’s first time drawing head coaching interest. He previously served as the Chicago Bears’ head coach from 2018 to 2021, where his tenure produced mixed results.

But league insiders continue to note his reputation for offensive structure and adaptability. Since returning to Kansas City, Nagy has reestablished himself as a trusted voice within a consistently dominant offense, led by Patrick Mahomes.

While the search is still in its early stages, the decision to engage a proven Super Bowl-winning coach sets a serious tone for what lies ahead.

Meanwhile, the Titans’ coaching search is officially underway, and two more coaches have been requested to appear for an interview.

Titans Lined Up Interview With the Chiefs and Broncos Defensive Coordinators

Along with the Chiefs’ offense coordinator, the Chiefs DC- Steve Spagnuolo- and the Denver Broncos DC – Vance Joseph- are in the lineup for the interview for the head coaching position.

Steve Spagnuolo is one of the most accomplished defensive coaches in NFL history. He first rose to prominence as defensive coordinator of the New York Giants, where his unit powered the upset of the undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

Spagnuolo has also served as the head coach of the St. Louis Rams, finishing with a 10–38 record from 2009 to 2011. Since joining the Kansas City Chiefs as defensive coordinator in 2019, he has won three Super Bowls (LIV, LVII, LVIII), giving him four total Super Bowl rings, the most ever by an NFL coordinator.

And in the case of Vance Joseph, he has built a long NFL resume across multiple roles. Joseph served as head coach of the Broncos from 2017 to 2018. After that, he had a coordinator stint with the Arizona Cardinals from 2019 to 2022.

He then returned to Denver as the defensive coordinator in 2023. Under Joseph, the Broncos’ defense rebounded late in the 2023 season and showed measurable improvement in pressure rate and scoring defense consistency in 2024.

So, the Titans are going in the right direction for their head coach position. Let’s see who will have a perfect shot at the Apex seat.
