Titans Reunite Cam Ward With His No. 1 College Weapon, Signing Miami WR Xavier Restrepo As UDFA

The Tennessee Titans snapped up Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, reuniting him with quarterback Cam Ward. Why it makes sense.

The Tennessee Titans acted quickly the moment the 2025 NFL draft ended, signing Miami wide receiver Xavier Restrepo to an undrafted free agent contract.

The Titans are starting out on the right track with their new franchise quarterback Cam Ward, having already made multiple moves to support his career in the NFL.

Tennessee Titans Add Multiple Pass Catchers for Franchise Quarterback

The Tennessee Titans had the number one overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, and they were all in on Ward from the very beginning. While a couple of teams called with offers to trade up, the Titans never really opened that door, keeping the pick to select their new franchise quarterback.

After making the pick at No. 1, the Titans went back-to-back on defense with UCLA pass rusher Oluwafemi Oladejo in round two, and Penn State safety Kevin Winston Jr. in round three.

Once they’d covered those two needs, they refocused on supporting their quarterback. The Titans added speedy wide receiver Chimere Dike with the first pick in the fourth round, closely followed by tight end Gunnar Helm just 17 picks later.

Later in the fourth, Titans GM Mike Borgonzi went back into the pool of available receivers, selecting 6’2″ Elic Ayomanor out of Stanford.

If that wasn’t enough, Tennessee snapped up their new QB1’s number one target at Miami, Restrepo, as an undrafted free agent.

Restrepo fell through the draft after running a 4.80 40-yard dash. His production on the field at Miami was excellent, but teams were evidently turned away by the poor 40 time.

Tennessee has made it very clear that their quarterback is going to have weapons to throw to early in his NFL career. They’re not going to be working with scraps, with already impressive-looking depth on the roster.

The long list of rookie pass catchers joins veteran additions Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson on the Titans roster. Calvin Ridley went from having very little help at receiver to having a host of players to suit up with.

Tennessee wants Ward to be comfortable from the very start, and what better way to do that than to give him a target he already knows going into minicamp?

Cam Ward’s Production With Xavier Restrepo in Miami

Restrepo had posted 1,003 receiving yards in 2023, before Ward’s arrival for the 2024 season.

While working together in 2024, Restrepo improved upon that number with 69 catches for 1,127 receiving yards, but what really jumped off the page was the yards per catch and the total number of touchdowns.

In 2024, Ward helped Restrepo to a 16.3 yards per catch average, almost three whole yards better than his average from the previous year. He went from 5 touchdowns in 2023 to 11 in 2024, with his average depth of target increasing by almost two yards, too.

Restrepo is a pure slot receiver, and while his speed might not jump off the page, his production has been there for all to see. He played 90% of his 2024 snaps out of the slot and could earn a similar role in a camp battle in Tennessee.
