Titans Announce Major Change to Offense Ahead of Patriots Game

The Tennessee Titans announced they are making quite a major change to their offense ahead of Sunday's game against the Patriots.

The Tennessee Titans have performed as expected this season. Unfortunately for the Titans, meeting standards means having a 1-5 record. Tennessee enters Week 7 with a single victory over the Arizona Cardinals, as it takes on the New England Patriots at home. Something needs to change to get the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Cam Ward, and this offense going, and it’s clear the new-look coaching staff recognizes this.

The Titans announced quite a substantial change to their offense Sunday morning.

How Are the Titans Changing Their Offense To Face the Patriots?

The Patriots have been one of the most unexpectedly successful teams in the league this season, as they sit atop the AFC East with a 4-2 record. Much of that credit belongs to sophomore quarterback Drake Maye and the offense, but a Mike Vrabel-led defense is unsurprisingly performing well.

Because of this and Ward’s woes thus far, ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced the Titans are expected to simplify their offense for the former Miami Hurricanes signal caller.

Schefter began, “The Tennessee Titans changed coaches last week, and now they are expected to change some of their offense Sunday. As the Titans prepare for the debut of interim head coach Mike McCoy, they also are expected to simplify their offense for No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, league sources told ESPN.”

McCoy, who is now the head coach, acted as a senior offensive assistant for the Titans this season. He had stints as the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals prior and was the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach from 2013 to 2016. He most recently spent time developing Trevor Lawrence as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback coach (2022-2024).

Lawrence remains the face of the Jaguars’ franchise, so clearly McCoy knows what he’s doing when it comes to developing and aiding youthful quarterbacks.

McCoy referenced this during his news conferences last week, and it is expected to happen,” Schefter wrote. “The Titans want to make sure Ward is focused on doing a few things well rather than trying to grasp the many elements that the rookie quarterback often struggled to do in their first six games.”

“While the Titans (1-5) are planning to simplify their offense for Sunday’s game against the Patriots and beyond, they also will have to do it with a new rushing attack,” Schefter concluded.

It’s only a matter of time before fans see if McCoy’s adjustments will pay off, as Patriots-Titans kicks off at 1 PM ET.
