‘That’s Some Straight BS’ — 49ers Star Brandon Aiyuk Accuses NFLPA of ‘Lying’ As He Tries to Join Commanders

Tensions continue to rise as wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk publicly criticized the NFLPA, as his beef with the 49ers continues.

The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has made headlines multiple times for publicly voicing his frustrations with his own team. His latest rant on Sunday continued that trend, while also taking a shot at the National Football League Players Association.

Brandon Aiyuk Blasts NFLPA as 49ers Drama Reaches New Breaking Point

Aiyuk has made no secret of his growing frustration with the San Francisco 49ers organization, particularly general manager John Lynch. He recently revealed that he ended his Standard Representation Agreement with agent Ryan Williams back in November because Williams also represented Lynch, creating a conflict of interest in Aiyuk’s view.

Aiyuk also directed his anger toward the NFLPA, claiming its official records continued to list Williams as his representative until Friday night despite the agreement being terminated months earlier.

“When members of the union that is in place to help players are lying/withholding information from a player on behalf of the team alongside a certified agent.. that’s some straight BS!!!” Aiyuk wrote on his Instagram story, tagging the NFLPA.

“Some players have no other place to go for information or help, and are relying on the union to help them continue advancing in their careers and lives! I’m sure there are great members of the union, so this message does not pertain to them, but about the ones in my specific case.”

By Saturday, the NFLPA had updated its records, leaving Aiyuk officially without an agent.

Aiyuk has not detailed any specific action or inaction by the NFLPA regarding his current situation, but his latest comments highlight just how frustrated he has become. His relationship with the 49ers appears to have steadily deteriorated since signing a four-year, $120 million contract extension in August 2024.

The situation worsened last year when San Francisco voided the remaining guaranteed money on Aiyuk’s contract after determining that he failed to participate in rehabilitation for the torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus in his right knee. He is currently on the 49ers’ reserve/left squad list, and Lynch openly said earlier in the offseason that the wide receiver had likely “played his last snap with the Niners.”

Meanwhile, in his latest video outburst, Aiyuk claimed Lynch unexpectedly showed up at his home without an invitation. He also criticized head coach Kyle Shanahan, saying the coach has the temperament of a toddler, and declared that he would not return to the 49ers’ facility until Oct. 19.

Attention will now shift toward the July 25 training camp reporting deadline, as whether Aiyuk’s ongoing dispute is resolved before then remains uncertain. Many believe that, rather than continuing his battle publicly on social media, Aiyuk’s strongest legal option would be to petition the NFL for reinstatement from the reserve/left squad list.

Such a move would force the 49ers to either restore him to the active roster or officially release him.

Meanwhile, Aiyuk has also been vocal about his preferred destination if he leaves San Francisco, as he has repeatedly expressed interest in joining the Washington Commanders, where he could reunite with quarterback Jayden Daniels.

The two were college teammates at Arizona State and have remained close friends, though any potential reunion will depend on Aiyuk resolving his standoff with the 49ers first.
