Deion Sanders has taken the college football landscape by storm in his second year at Boulder. Currently coaching the Colorado Buffaloes, “Coach Prime” has taken his team from a forgetful 4-8 season in 2023 to a 7-2 record in 2024.
NFL fans and analysts are buzzing about the possibility of Sanders joining the Dallas Cowboys as head coach. It’s no secret that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is facing mounting pressure over his team’s lackluster 3-6 record, and what better way to start fresh than with a name like Sanders?
Rex Ryan Is Team Deion Sanders
Former NFL head coach Rex Ryan is fanning the flames around the notion of Sanders returning to Dallas seems more plausible than ever.
During an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, Ryan threw out the suggestion, saying, “Look, they [Cowboys] gotta restart, but they got to do something. I’ve looked at a couple of teams recently. I look at the Lions. Who’d they hire? One of their former players — Dan Campbell. How about the Houston Texans? One of their former player — DeMeco Ryans… Deion Sanders may be in play here.”
“They need to have somebody that has the pride in that damn organization, to be in the Dallas Cowboys, the pride you take in. And by the way, Deion, everywhere he’s been, he’s been kicking,” Ryan continued.

Ryan wasn’t shy about praising Sanders’ impact in college football, first at Jackson State and now at the University of Colorado. Coach Prime has turned Colorado from a struggling program into a bowl-eligible team this season and is pulling the Buffs into playoff conversations.
His leadership style, charisma, and sheer presence on the sidelines have transformed Colorado into a sensation. As Ryan pointed out, Sanders’ ability to revive programs has been proven, and the Cowboys could be the next to benefit.
The Cowboys, who haven’t seen playoff success in recent years, are struggling on both sides of the ball. A series of tough losses, questionable decisions — like missing out on Derrick Henry — and a season-ending injury to QB Dak Prescott have left fans exasperated.
Many believe Jones needs to shake things up with head coach Mike McCarthy being shown the door. A coach like Deion, who played for the Cowboys from 1995-2000, could be the answer. Sanders’ understanding of Dallas’ culture and history might just make him the perfect candidate to reignite the team’s drive.
With his son QB Shedeur Sanders and star Travis Hunter in the lineup, he’s drawn national attention to the Buffaloes. It’s not hard to imagine Sanders working similar magic in Dallas. Bringing in Sanders could give Dallas a much-needed reboot, and the media clout and youthful talent could draw fans back in.
Jones has already hinted at an interest in Shedeur Sanders, who’s a top 2025 NFL Draft prospect, so the notion of Sanders taking the reins doesn’t feel far-fetched.
Whether or not Jones will actually make the move remains uncertain. But as Cowboys fans continue to call for change, it’s clear that Coach Prime would bring both passion and purpose to a franchise searching for a new identity.
