Where Did McMillan Land in Our Most Recent NFL Mock Draft?

In the latest mock draft from Pro Football Network NFL Draft Analyst Ian Cummings, McMillan was selected eighth overall by the Miami Dolphins. Here’s what Cummings had to say about his projection of McMillan to Miami:

“Let’s try something different, Miami. Because what you’ve been doing clearly isn’t working. Let’s give defenses something else to worry about alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

“With his frame and hand strength, Tetairoa McMillan can be the contested convertor and chain-mover the others can’t, and he’s a vertical and RAC weapon in his own right.”

McMillan’s Best Landing Spots in the NFL

Who couldn’t use a unicorn on the perimeter? These teams could look at drafting the Arizona receiver in the upper half of the first round.

    Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders’ primary focus will be finding a franchise quarterback this offseason. But with Davante Adams likely long gone by the time spring rolls around, the next Raiders quarterback will also need more weapons to target beyond promising rookie tight end Brock Bowers.

If the Raiders don’t fall in love with one of the quarterback prospects in their range and instead for the stopgap plan again, they could do worse than making McMillan the hub of their offense.

    Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns likely won’t have many financial resources to add to their team if they eat the remainder of Deshaun Watson’s albatross contract. And with Amari Cooper set to hit free agency, Cleveland may also need a new No. 1 receiver for whoever plays quarterback next season.

Like the Raiders, the Browns need to answer the quarterback question first but may decide to pivot if they don’t find the right prospect at the top of the draft. In that case, it may behoove them to recapture their offensive identity of a Nick Chubb-led run game and downfield shots. McMillan could provide the dash of vertical explosiveness that a run-oriented attack needs to survive.

    Los Angeles Chargers

Yes, the Los Angeles Chargers will be a three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-rubber-pellets operation as long as Jim Harbaugh is running the show. However, Justin Herbert needs more playmaking support this offseason after Harbaugh’s first offseason focused on rebuilding the defense and offensive line.

McMillan would be an ideal fit in an offense that lacks vertical explosiveness. Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey both profile as receivers who will have shallower aDOT averages and rely more on generating yards after the catch. McMillan can add the vertical stretch element back into the Chargers offense and be a deadly efficient target off of play action.

    McMillan’s Scouting Report

Here’s a look at McMillan’s scouting report from Cummings:

“Just a year after we had several uncommon size-speed athletes at the WR position, McMillan looks like another potential unicorn in the making. Despite being 6’5″ and 210 pounds, some of McMillan’s calling cards are his burst, speed, quickness, and flexibility.

“Even more impressive, however, is how McMillan uses his physical tools to his advantage. As a route runner, he’s shown to use his speed and hip flexibility to modulate spacing and get open. And he quietly has good run-after-catch ability with his slippery mobility.

“That said, the best part of McMillan’s game is his ability at the catch point. While there are occasional aberrations with his hand positioning, he excels at boxing out defenders with his frame and playing positioning and has the reach and body control to make plays from anywhere.

“There are still areas in which McMillan can improve. Dealing with physicality can be an issue at times, and as is often the case with younger players, there are still ways he can refine his route running. All this aside, McMillan has WR1 and blue-chip potential.”

Tetairoa McMillan’s 2024 Season Stats and Game Breakdowns

“Tet” McMillan was a third-team All-American during Arizona’s final Pac-12 season in 2023 and could be headed for even higher honors in 2024. Here are his season stats to date:

    Receptions: 47
    Receiving Yards: 780
    Receiving TD: 4
    Receiving Yards per Game: 111.4
