Washington Commanders star wide receiver Terry McLaurin has only one year left on his $68.3 million contract. He will be one of Jayden Daniels’ primary weapons in the upcoming season. However, he is yet to sign an extension with the franchise.
The Commanders have started preparing for the 2025 NFL season. But their star WR was nowhere to be seen in Wednesday’s offseason workout.

Terry McLaurin Absent From Commanders Offseason Practice
Washington drafted McLaurin in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft as the 76th overall pick. They handed him a three-year deal in 2022. Entering his final season, the 29-year-old’s future is still uncertain.
Amid all the speculations about his future, the two-time Pro Bowler skipped Wednesday’s practice session, per Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz.
#Commanders All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin was not at practice today as offseason workouts continue. He had been a full participant previously and is entering the final year of his contract.

It should not be a worrying sign as he was a full participant in the rest of the practice sessions and offseason workouts. McLaurin has already spent six years with the franchise and loves the fan base. He has been a key contributor for the Commanders during his tenure, breaching the 1,000-receiving yards mark in five seasons and missing it by only 81 yards in his rookie season.
He has not only produced great numbers but has also managed to keep himself fit. In six years, McLaurin started 97 regular-season games and all four postseason games for the franchise. Last season, he charted 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns.
The Commanders traded for Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for draft capital. They are done with the 2025 NFL draft as well, and it seems to be the right time to crack a deal with McLaurin.
The Commanders’ general manager, Adam Peters, told the Washington Post that talks with McLaurin for an extension had begun in March. The franchise sees him as a cornerstone and wants to keep him for a long time.
“We want to make Terry a Commander for a long time. He’s a great Commander. He got better and better as the season went on — not only as a player, but as a leader,” he said.
Peters is impressed by McLaurin’s growth and revealed that the preliminary talks have been positive.
“It was really impressive to see him grow so much. You think of Terry as this pristine, polished player, but then he got even better, so it’s really cool. Everybody can get better, even the great ones. So, we’ve had talks with Terry’s representation, and I think — just like any talks — we’ll have those stay in the house. But it’s been really positive,” he concluded.
The Commanders are coming off a great season. They made it to the NFC Championship game but eventually fell to the Philadelphia Eagles, who went on to win Super Bowl 59. McLaurin and Daniels would love to bring the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Washington next season. If the Commanders extend McLaurin, which seems likely, their WR corps will certainly be a force to reckon with.
