Future Hall of Famer? Terrion Arnold Credits “Michael Jordan” Moment as Catalyst for 2023 Growth

At the NFL Combine, Alabama CB Terrion Arnold referenced his "Michael Jordan" moment in 2022 as the catalyst for his lofty trajectory.

Terrion Arnold, who starred at Alabama in 2023, is viewed by many as the best cornerback prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft. But he’s not stopping there with his ambition at the professional level. Arnold has his sights set high, and it all started in 2022.

Terrion Arnold Riding Momentum From “Michael Jordan” Moment, Chasing the Hall of Fame

There was a time when the CB1 mantle in the 2024 NFL Draft was up for grabs. That may not be the case anymore. After a dominant 2023 campaign that saw him amass 63 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, a sack, five interceptions, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble, Arnold is widely regarded as the favorite to be CB1.

Arnold wasn’t always viewed in that light. Heading into the 2023 campaign, Arnold’s upside was well-known. He was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and flashed promise in 2022. But even as late as the Texas game in 2023, Arnold’s youth and need for consistency were evident on tape.

But after taking his lumps in 2022 and early in 2023, Arnold didn’t delay on the path to becoming a lockdown CB. He improved each and every week, and by the end of the 2023 season, he was a completely different player — with the refinement and impact to match his athleticism.

When asked about what catalyzed his dramatic rise in 2023, Arnold took a step back to 2022, when he was a redshirt freshman with the Crimson Tide.

“After we played Tennessee, I got benched. I’ve been telling NFL teams that right there, that changed everything. I like to say I had my ‘Michael Jordan moment’ — I write it down every day. Eli Ricks, that’s my brother. But when I got benched and replaced for him, it motivated me. I write it down every day and say I refuse to ever let that happen again.”

Arnold’s profile should lend him a starting opportunity early in his NFL career. But that’s not where the Alabama corner is drawing the bar. Not even close. When he’s done, Arnold wants to be one of the all-time greats at the CB position, and his desire — fueled by his taste of defeat in 2022 — is what drives him.

“That’s what’s going to lead me to the Hall of Fame. Getting that golden jacket — I’m talking about the one you can’t buy.”

It’s far too early to even speculate about Hall of Fame career paths for 2024 NFL Draft prospects, but Arnold would be in select company if he were to bring his dream to fruition. There are only 19 CBs in the Hall of Fame currently.

Whether Arnold will or will not make it to Canton isn’t for anyone to say at this point in time. But he undeniably has the athletic talent to be a great player, and his hardened will only make him stronger.
