Terrion Arnold’s Contract Situation with a Potential Suspension Coming

Arnold is likely facing a suspension for his actions, but that isn’t the immediate worry. He faces prison time, and it could be a while, if ever, before he suits up for the Lions once again.

Currently, Arnold has just two years on his contract remaining after being selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He is owed $4.8 million guaranteed for the next two seasons and could earn plenty more if the Lions pick up his fifth-year option.

However, the Lions might not owe Arnold any of that, as a suspension would cost him his guaranteed money.

“Any suspension stemming from a violation of the league’s conduct policy would void the guarantees,” said Michael Ginnitti, the co-founder of Spotrac.

Arnold may have just cost himself millions and his NFL career if he is suspended and found liable. If that happens, the Lions are off the hook for the $4.8 million and wouldn’t owe him any guaranteed cash. Depending on the consequences Arnold faces, the Lions might need to redirect that money elsewhere to find a replacement.

Although it’s not a huge sum the Lions won’t have to pay, it’s enough to get a good player cheaply. The Lions’ secondary needed bolstering after a tough 2025 season, as they missed the playoffs despite winning 15 games the previous season.

So, they added nickel corner Roger McCreary and drafted Arizona State CB Keith Abney II in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft to help their secondary. This might prove to be great business, with questions now surrounding Arnold’s future.

Arnold was the 77th-ranked corner in PFSN’s CB Impact Metric in 2025, posting an impact score of 72.4. He didn’t have the greatest season, but was a playable option on the outside. Unfortunately, in 2026, Arnold might not even be a playable option, as he could very well be watching from the sidelines with a hefty suspension and, in the process, costing himself millions.
