Bergs vs. Zverev: Head-to-Head History
This will be the first meeting between these two players on the ATP Tour. Zverev has been largely solid this year without looking like challenging Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Clay is Zverev’s favorite surface in terms of results, where he holds a strong career win percentage. After coming from behind to defeat clay-court specialist Cristian GarÃn in three sets, Zverev will be eager to find his stride as he looks to end his 12-month drought for an ATP Tour title.
Bergs pulled off a big upset against Rublev in the last round, claiming an impressive 6-4, 6-1 win. The Belgian also won in straight sets against Adrian Mannarino in the first round, making these his first back-to-back wins on the ATP Tour since the United Cup in January.
Clay is by no means Bergs’ preferred surface, and he holds a losing overall win-loss record on it. But he is no doubt a talented player who will be keen to upset the odds and spring a surprise on Thursday.
Bergs vs. Zverev: Match Prediction
Zverev goes into the match as the heavy favorite. But Bergs showed against Rublev that he is no pushover. He broke his opponent’s serve multiple times while also serving effectively on his second serve.
Bergs has also fired a high number of aces so far in Monte-Carlo, and that is something Zverev will have to be wary of as he looks to avoid an upset. The German also had to come from 5-2 down in the deciding set to defeat GarÃn in the last round. His 47 unforced errors will give Bergs some encouragement going into their matchup.
But Zverev is one of the top clay-court players in the world. And as long as he can keep his concentration levels high and avoid unforced errors, he should be able to make it through to the quarterfinals.
