Oliver Tarvet’s Journey From Local Courts to Wimbledon’s Grand Stage

Born on Oct. 29, 2003, Tarvet began playing tennis at the Batchwood Sports Centre in his hometown of St Albans. As a child, he participated in football and cricket before committing fully to tennis.

During his A-level years, he was home-schooled to focus on full-time training at Unique Tennis London under coach Stuart Havelock. Unlike many British juniors, Tarvet did not relocate to train at the Lawn Tennis Association’s national center but remained based in Hertfordshire, England, before moving to the United States for college.

He enrolled at the University of San Diego in 2022, joining the NCAA Division I program where he has since emerged as one of the top players in collegiate tennis. His development accelerated rapidly: in 2023, he was named WCC Freshman of the Year, and by 2024 and 2025, he had earned back-to-back West Coast Conference Player of the Year honors.

He has consistently ranked among the top five players in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national singles rankings and peaked as the No. 1 doubles player in the country with partner Stian Klaassen.

College Dominance and Professional Breakthrough

During the 2024-25 NCAA season, Tarvet compiled a 25-2 singles record and a 22-4 doubles record, going 19-1 in dual singles matches and 16-3 in dual doubles matches. He went undefeated (13-0) in completed singles matches against ranked opponents in dual match play, with wins over ITA No. 25 (twice), 23, 22, 18, 16, and 13.

In March 2025, he defeated Columbia’s top-ranked player, Michael Zheng, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, after trailing by a set and a break. That victory helped secure USD’s first-ever home NCAA Tournament match win, where Tarvet defeated UC Irvine’s Noah Zamora 7-5, 6-1.

In fall 2024, he won the ITA Singles and Doubles All-American Championships, becoming only the fifth player in history to sweep both titles. He and Klaassen entered the NCAA Doubles Championships in spring 2025 as the No. 1 overall seed and reached the Round of 16, while Tarvet also reached the Round of 32 in singles.

In professional play, Tarvet has claimed five International Tennis Federation titles and reached a career-high ATP Tour singles ranking of 624 on Sept. 23, 2024. His doubles ranking peaked at No. 2,366 on May 19, 2025. As of March 2025, he competed in select Futures and Challenger events while maintaining NCAA eligibility under the ATP/ITA Accelerator Program.

Wimbledon 2025: Wild Card to Main Draw

In June 2025, Tarvet was awarded a wild card spot in the Wimbledon men’s singles qualifying draw. In the first round, he defeated Frenchman Térence Atmane in straight sets. He followed that up with another straight-sets win over Alexis Galarneau of Canada, before defeating Belgian prospect Alexander Blockx in the final qualifying round.

His Grand Slam main-draw debut win came against Riedi, a Swiss player with a career-high ATP ranking of 117. Tarvet’s second-round opponent is Alcaraz, who won Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024.
