Amanda Anisimova held back tears as she dropped her racquet and covered her face, overwhelmed by emotion after booking her spot in the 2025 Wimbledon quarterfinals.
The 23-year-old let the moment sink in after her hard-fought victory over 30th seed Linda Nosková in three tense sets, as the Centre Court crowd roared in support.
A Strong 2025 Season Puts Anisimova Back in the Spotlight
The Florida native’s 2025 season began with a quarterfinal appearance at the Hobart International, though she was forced to withdraw due to illness. She rebounded quickly with her first-ever WTA 1000 trophy at the Qatar Open in February, where she defeated Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets.
On clay, she made a strong semifinal run in Charleston before an unfortunate retirement against Sofia Kenin. She also reached the fourth round at Roland Garros.
Her grass-court preparation for Wimbledon was solid, including a runner-up finish at the Queen’s Club Championships and a quarterfinal showing in Berlin. At SW19, Anisimova cruised past Yulia Putintseva, Renata Zarazúa, Dalma Gálfi, and Nosková to reach her third Grand Slam quarterfinal and second at Wimbledon.

Anisimova’s run to the last eight at the All England Club marks a powerful chapter in her career resurgence. Just two years ago, she walked away from tennis to prioritize her mental health. After experiencing burnout and battling inconsistent form, Anisimova stepped away from the tour, choosing self-care over the pressure of competition.
During her eight-month hiatus, she embraced a more grounded life, traveling, painting, volunteering, and even taking college courses, before finally returning to the circuit in early 2024 at the ASB Classic.
Who Anisimova Will Face Next at Wimbledon?
Anisimova will now take on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the quarterfinals. This will be their fourth meeting on the WTA Tour, with the American holding a dominant 3-0 head-to-head record. They last met in the second round at the 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open, where the American won in three sets.
The winner of this match will take on either top seed Aryna Sabalenka or Laura Siegemund in the semifinals.
