Victoria Mboko has overcome Mirra Andreeva in the Round of 16 at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, settling the score with the young Russian who had defeated her in the title match of the 2026 Adelaide International. The Canadian star entered the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha as the 10th seed and also played in the doubles category with Coco Gauff, losing to Cristina Bucșa and Nicole Melichar-Martinez in the first round.

Victoria Mboko Shares a Sweet Moment With Mirra Andreeva As She Squares Things Up With Qatar Win

The outdoor hard-court tournament at Doha, which is being held from February 8 to 14, 2026, at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, saw the beginning of elite competition between Mboko and Andreeva, who first met at the Adelaide International, with the Canadian losing the final 6-3, 6-1.

She returned to their second meeting with determination and secured the victory, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(5), in 2 hours and 10 minutes against Andreeva, who had entered the tournament as the fifth seed. The 19-year-old, who avenged herself on the court, shared a heartwarming moment with Andreeva, hugging her after their match, highlighting the sportsmanship and respect between the teenagers.

Mboko has now reached the quarterfinals and shared her thoughts after clinching the notable win, adding, “It took everything. I think at the end we were both pretty tired. I’m just glad to have pulled it through today and get the win. I’m happy.”

Mboko, who reached the quarterfinals in her debut at the tournament, further added, highlighting the feat, “Yeah it’s my first time here. So far I’m liking it a lot. I’m excited to play here tomorrow. I wanna thank everyone who came to support as well. It was just incredible energy from the crowd so I wanna thank everyone.”

Considering their rising rivalry, Mboko, in awe of Andreeva’s talents, reflected, “Seeing her [Andreeva] do so well at such a young age, it’s very motivating…I can definitely see myself playing her a lot more in the future.”

With the Doha win, Mboko has reached her second WTA 1000 quarterfinal and posted her third top ten win. Before entering the Middle East Swing, Mboko had ended her Australian Open run with a fourth-round loss to World No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka.
