Venus Williams’ First-Round Action at Australian Open Receives Reactions From Fans

Before competing at the Australian Open, the WTA legend began her 33rd season with the ASB Classic, losing in the round of 32 to Magda Linette, and at the Hobart International, with a wildcard, once again facing defeat in the same round to Tatjana Maria.

At Melbourne Park, Williams was set to face Serbian World No. 69 and lost, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, in 2 hours, 17 minutes. With her determination and grit, Williams is still competing at this age after battling decade-long issues of adenomyosis and uterine fibroids. Her Grand Slam was nothing short of splendid, as she was 4-0 in the deciding set at one point but eventually lost.

Her notable delivery garnered reactions from fans, who shared them via r/tennis’ Reddit post. One of the fans expressed, reflecting on the intensity of the match, “One of the most gutting matches ever. 45 year old, up 4-0 in the 3rd, 14 minute game to get broken at 4-4 where she had most of the game points. Setup an overhead at 4-5 to get to 15-40 double break point but couldn’t close out the point. Could’ve had a Coco vs Venus r2 match too (if Coco wins), would’ve been an absolutely electric atmosphere.”

Another added, “Saw that Venus was leading 4-0 in the last set, was so happy to see she was making history so I started to watch the match then Danilovic won 6 games in a row…………. I blame myself.”

The next tennis enthusiast reflected, highlighting the turn of the match, “That was a devastating loss from 4-0 up in the third 😔”

Another shared their good wishes to the Serbian star and mentioned how three sets are heavy for the veteran player, “Congrats Olga. I thought she would mentally crumble in the last set. But 3 sets is way too much for Venus now.”
