Ben Shelton’s Breakthrough Season on the ATP Tour

Shelton’s biggest breakthrough came in August at the Canadian Open in Toronto, where he lifted his maiden ATP Masters 1000 trophy after outlasting Karen Khachanov in a three-set final 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(3). Earlier in the season, Shelton had reached the BMW Open final in Munich, finishing as runner-up to Alexander Zverev.

The American tennis star made deep runs across major tournaments, including the semifinals of the Australian Open and quarterfinals at Wimbledon. His consistent form, highlighted by deep runs in Indian Wells, Cincinnati, and the Paris Masters, propelled him into the world’s top 10 for the first time, peaking at No. 6.

How Did Trinity Rodman Celebrate Shelton’s Incredible Season?

In her heartfelt Instagram story, Rodman praised Shelton for thriving “through adversities and losses,” expressing how proud she is of his journey to becoming the World No. 6 player. “What a year… #6 in the world. You’ve worked so hard this year and put in so much work,” she wrote. “Through adversities and losses, you have continued to thrive. You prove the doubters wrong and amaze me every day.”

Her message highlighted the challenges he faced, which saw him battle injury setbacks. During the US Open, the young star was forced to retire in the third round due to a left shoulder issue, abruptly halting what had been a promising run on home soil.

Despite that setback, he bounced back strong in the closing months of the season, securing his place as the fifth qualifier for the ATP Finals in Turin, set to begin November 9.

His 2025 win-loss record stands around 40-21, and according to ATP Tour statistics, he has earned more than $4.2 million in prize money this season. Rodman celebrated these milestones in her note, calling his top-10 debut “the most rewarding thing to see” and expressing excitement for his final tournament:

“Last tournament of the season and it’s the finals! You are one of a kind and you grow the sport every time you are yourself out there. I love you. One more push and then I get you all offseason.”

Shelton and Rodman confirmed their romance in early 2025 after sharing photos together online, quickly becoming one of sports’ most celebrated young power couples. Despite the demands of their respective careers, with Shelton on the ATP Tour and Rodman starring for the Washington Spirit in the NWSL, the two have consistently shown up for one another, offering mutual support.
