Carlos Alcaraz’s Opponent’s Last-Minute Withdrawal at Queen’s Club After Wedding Leads to Hilarious Fan Speculation

Carlos Alcaraz's opponent's sudden Queen’s Club withdrawal has fans buzzing with theories about the reasons behind his unexpected absence.

Tennis fans were salivating at the prospect of watching a fierce match between Carlos Alcaraz and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Round of 32 at the ongoing HSBC Championships at the Queen’s Club.

However, the 28th-ranked Davidovich Fokina pulled out at the last moment, citing illness, which triggered dismay among tennis enthusiasts.

Although Alcaraz leads Davidovich Fokina 2-0 in their head-to-head, both their matches produced some exhilarating shotplay from the two hard-hitting Spaniards. In Davidovich Fokina’s place, top seed Alcaraz is facing Australian Adam Walton, who was chosen after Davidovich Fokina’s withdrawal.

Fans Troll Alejandro Davidovich Fokina for Ditching Queen’s Club Match

Davidovich Fokina’s withdrawal from Queen’s has triggered hilarious responses from fans as they try to decode why he failed to appear in London.

A user on X suggested that Davidovich Fokina doesn’t want to play against Alcaraz, as he’s “p***ed” that the World No. 2, Alcaraz, did not attend his wedding.

“Nuar hes p***ed abt [about] carlos not going to his wedding he doesnt want to play with him,” the user wrote.

Davidovich Fokina, 26, on Monday tied the knot with longtime partner Paloma Amatiste in an intimate ceremony surrounded by close friends and family.

Before their match at Queen’s Club, Alcaraz confirmed he had been invited to the wedding. However, after his recent victory at Roland-Garros, the World No. 2 flew straight to Ibiza, Spain, where he partied with friends for three days and ended up missing his compatriots’ big day.

Alcaraz had also suggested that the encounter would be “interesting” as the duo is familiar with each other’s games.

“[We have] practiced a lot. So it’s going to be interesting,” Alcaraz said in his pre-match interview. “It’s not gonna be easy, never easy playing against a friend, but you know, this is tennis. Once you step on the court, there are no friends.”

Meanwhile, some tennis fans joked that Davidovich Fokina might have pretended to be sick to keep enjoying the wedding celebrations.

“He must’ve had way to much fun after his wedding,” said one user on X.

Another X user suggested that Davidovich Fokina is going on a honeymoon.

“Bro’s going on a honeymoon rq,” the user wrote.

Another claimed that he must still be “drunk” from the party at the wedding: “Fokina’s hungover as HELL,” the X user teased.
