What Happened During Mirra Andreeva’s Wuhan Open Match Against Laura Siegemund?

The Round of 32 match between Andreeva and Siegemund began with fierce baseline exchanges, with the Russian securing the first set in a tiebreak, 7–6(4). She demonstrated her aggressive forehand and strong second-serve percentage despite committing several double faults.

Siegemund, ranked No. 57, retaliated in the second set, breaking Andreeva’s serve four times to claim it 6–3. In the decider, Siegemund maintained consistency, capitalizing on Andreeva’s service lapses and clinching the set 6–3 to seal a three-hour victory.

Throughout the 3 hours and 1 minute, Andreeva struggled with her serves, resulting in 15 double faults. She was broken eight times and won just 40% of second-serve points, compared to Siegemund’s 57%. Siegemund slightly overtook her in terms of the total points won (119-109), reflecting the German’s tactical edge in high-stakes games.

As the match slipped away, Andreeva’s frustration became evident. After losing her serve at one point in the match, she directed harsh words at the camera, insisting she did not want to be filmed.

Later, tears flowed during changeovers and between points, Andreeva’s emotional vulnerability laid bare.

After committing a double fault in the fifth game of the second set on her serve, Andreeva was visibly frustrated with the gameplay. This became even more evident as she couldn’t hold back her emotions, shouting, “F**king sick of this f**king tennis,” in Russian.

Siegemund, on the other hand, put on an impressive play against the fifth seed, committing significantly fewer double-faults while maintaining a good serve point percentage. She dominated in both service games and return games, securing her spot in the Round of 16 at the WTA 1000 tournament.
