What To Know About Taylor Townsend’s Son Adyn
Townsend’s four-year-old son, Adyn Aubrey Johnson, affectionately called “AJ,” was one of the heartwarming stories surrounding the 2025 US Open. Born in March 2021 after Townsend announced her pregnancy in late 2020, Adyn became a source of inspiration as he cheered his mother to memorable performances on tennis’s biggest stage. Adyn was born on March 14, 2021, marking Townsend’s transition from solo athlete to devoted mother.
When Townsend stunned fifth seed Mirra Andreeva in the third round of the 2025 US Open, she dedicated the victory to AJ, noting how excited he had been to travel to New York. Before the tournament, she recorded a tender goodbye video reminding him to be respectful, grateful, and confident, while AJ promised he would miss her. Townsend later said that hearing her son cheer from the stands gave her strength in long matches.
Before departing for the tournament, Townsend shared a tender goodbye video with Adyn. She told him, “Be great in school. Be respectful, thankful, and grateful. Say your affirmations and prayers.” In return, Adyn replied, “I’m gonna miss you too, mommy.”
Townsend said that hearing him cheer from the stands gave her extra energy in long matches.
The American became the World No. 1 in doubles earlier this year, and has won three titles so far in 2025 while partnering Kateřina Siniaková.
Meanwhile, Townsend has withdrawn from the 2025 China Open in Beijing and other tournaments in the country, citing an ankle injury. The withdrawal comes in the wake of controversy during the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen, where she publicly criticized Chinese cuisine, specifically dishes featuring bullfrogs and turtles.
Her comments were widely condemned as offensive, drawing criticism and even boos from spectators during her matches. Townsend later issued an apology for her remarks.
