Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, and Five Other American Men Seeded in the 2025 French Open Main Draw

Historically, American men have struggled on the clay courts of Roland Garros, with the last major title on Parisian soil going to Andre Agassi in 1999. But in 2025, things feel different. The resurgence of American tennis over the past few seasons has been headlined by Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, and Ben Shelton, each bringing a unique game to the sport’s slowest surface.

Seeded Players:

Fritz leads the charge as the fourth seed, aiming to improve on his Round of 16 finish last season. Right behind him are 12th seed Tommy Paul, 13th seed Ben Shelton, 15th seed Frances Tiafoe, 23rd seed Sebastian Korda, 28th seed Brandon Nakashima, and 32nd seed Alex Michelsen.

Unseeded Players, Qualifiers, and Lucky Losers:

Unseeded entries include Mackenzie McDonald, Reilly Opelka, and Jenson Brooksby, both returning from injury under protected rankings, alongside Learner Tien, Marcos Giron, Ethan Quinn (who fought through qualifying), and Aleksandar Kovacevic.

Wild Cards:

One of the more inspiring stories comes from Emilio Nava, who clinched a wild card spot by topping the USTA’s Roland Garros Wild Card Challenge. The 23-year-old excelled over a five-week U.S. clay-court swing, delivering consistent results to edge out his compatriots for the coveted ticket to Paris. This marks Nava’s second time in the French Open main draw, following a debut in 2023 where he exited in the opening round.

The journey to Paris wasn’t easy for all hopefuls, though. Several American players fell just short in the qualifying rounds. Nishesh Basavareddy, Brandon Holt, and Christopher Eubanks exited in the first round, while Eliot Spizzirri and Tristan Boyer bowed out in the second.

First-Round Opponents Revealed for All-American Men’s Seeds at Roland Garros

Taylor Fritz is set to meet Daniel Altmaier for their inaugural ATP Tour encounter. Tommy Paul will also make his debut against Elmer Møller. Ben Shelton is preparing for his fourth Tour meeting with Lorenzo Sonego, currently holding a 2-1 lead in their head-to-head record.

Frances Tiafoe will face Roman Safiullin for the second time, aiming to overturn his previous defeat in the second round of the 2024 Shanghai Masters. Meanwhile, Sebastian Korda will face Luciano Darderi for the first time, Brandon Nakashima will face Mariano Navone in their initial meeting, and Alex Michelsen will debut against Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
