Taylor Fritz Warned Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic Will ‘Hurt Him Everytime’ as Former Pro Exposes Weak Spot

A former ATP pro dissected Taylor Fritz's playing style and the American's struggles against Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic.

American ATP stars have been striving to secure a Grand Slam title, and a major chunk of the hopes lie with Taylor Fritz. The 27-year-old consistently manages to make it past the tough draws to deeper rounds but often faces defeats against the top pros, including Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic.

Analysing his situation, Nick Kyrgios’ former coach highlighted the difficulties he faces with his current playing style and came up with a conclusive suggestion on how he can lift the curse.

What Is Taylor Fritz’s Major Weak Point According to Nick Kyrgios’ Ex-Coach?

Fritz faced Alcaraz four times across various tournaments, with mixed results, most recently, a disappointing defeat at the 2025 Wimbledon semifinals. The Spaniard defeated him 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(6).

Addressing the difficulties he faced against the World No. 1, Nick Kyrgios’ former coach mentioned that his current playing style doesn’t allow him to excel. During his appearance on a talk show featured on the Australian Open TV, Simon Rea said:

“He’s got that ability to be safe and be consistent. He called it pushing, and he can do that well, but up against the very best. It’s not been a recipe that’s been enough to challenge them. So, the head-to-heads against Alcaraz, one and three, against Sinner, one and four, including losing the last three. And against Djokovic, he (Fritz) is 0-11.”

Further highlighting the aspect upon which he lags, Rea added:

“I think he’s caught a little bit between on his second serve. So all of those players are able to impact on his second serve. I think Taylor would say if he were in the room with us, his athleticism and physicality and movement is not a strength of his game like it is with those other three.”

“Even if 165 kmph on second serve, if they know where it’s coming, they will impact you. And that is where good players go to die. If they have read on your serve, and you become predictable, they will hurt you and they will hurt you every time. And that I think is the price that Taylor Fritz is paying.”

According to the official stats from his ATP profile, Fritz has secured only 50% of the second serve points in his career so far. His return stats also remain a concern, as he wins only 20% of the return games.

What Advice Did Andy Roddick Give to Fritz After Laver Cup Win?

Despite his struggles against the top players, Fritz delivered a standout performance at the 2025 Laver Cup, securing a decisive 6–3, 6–2 victory over Alcaraz. The World No. 5’s win not only clinched the match for Team World but also marked his first win against the Spaniard, in front of a home crowd at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

After the match, former pro Andy Roddick offered a measured perspective on Fritz’s achievement. While acknowledging the American player’s growth, Roddick said the 27-year-old should maintain his composure despite the breakthrough win.

“I always hear that if someone breaks out at World Tour Finals, like when Dimitrov wins it one year or Tsitsipas wins it one year, everyone goes ‘This is it. This is going to change everything.’ But there’s a lot of time between now and Australia. And this court could not be more different from a hot day in Australia…So take it for what it’s worth and don’t take away something from Fritz, but also let’s not project him into the finals of Wimbledon based on something that happened in September,” he said.

Fritz is currently competing at the 2025 Japan Open, an ATP 500 event, where he has reached the quarterfinals after a win against Nuno Borges.
