When Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi Spoke About Taking Up Pickleball as Post-Tennis Careers

Pickleball is a rapidly growing racket sport played by two to four players. Earlier this year, while speaking to PEOPLE magazine, Graf and Agassi shared their experiences with pickleball and talked about playing the sport after their professional tennis careers.
Graf revealed that she and Agassi began playing pickleball in 2020 during the pandemic. She mentioned that they prefer to team up rather than compete against each other, always choosing to play on the “same side of the court.”

“Andre still plays tennis, but I don’t much anymore. We really liked learning a new sport during the pandemic and meeting new friends through pickleball. We don’t play each other. We prefer to be on the same side of the court,” Graf said.

Agassi expressed that he and Graf like pickleball because it is a “community-driven sport.” He stated that he and the German want to grow the sport and mentioned that when they are not traveling, they enjoy practicing together.

“We like that pickleball is a community-driven sport. People who play pickleball improve their game quickly. While all types of sports lovers are playing, the age keeps getting younger. We really want to grow the game. When we are not traveling, we practice pickleball a great deal. Since we both play, it’s fun to do together.” Agassi said.

The Pickleball Slam is an exhibition event that has been held for three years, with its inaugural edition being held in 2023. Agassi has participated in all three editions, winning all three. Meanwhile, Graf competed in 2024 and 2025 alongside her husband and won both.

In 2023, Agassi teamed up with Andy Roddick and defeated the duo of John McEnroe and Michael Chang, claiming the title. The following year, Agassi and Graf triumphed over McEnroe and Maria Sharapova to secure the title. In 2025, the husband-and-wife team once again claimed the title, this time by triumphing over the pair of Roddick and Eugenie Bouchard.
