Stefanos Tsitsipas Blasts Umpire as Miami Loss Turns Ugly: ‘You Should Be Ashamed’

Stefanos Tsitsipas blasted the chair umpire during a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Arthur Fils in Miami, claiming he could not see the ball.

Stefanos Tsitsipas couldn’t contain his frustration during his crushing defeat to Arthur Fils at the 2026 Miami Open. Although the Greek had looked in fine form during his stellar 6-3, 7-6(3) upset win over Alex de Minaur in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 event, he failed to replicate his heroics in the third round.

Fils took control from the outset during their battle and cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Meanwhile, an irate Tsitsipas confronted the chair umpire and blamed visibility issues for his struggles.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Confronts the Chair Umpire at Miami Open

After being completely outplayed in the first set and dropping serve immediately in the second, Stefanos Tsitsipas furiously complained about the lighting on court. He approached the chair umpire and attributed his mounting unforced errors to difficulty tracking the ball and incredulously questioned how Arthur Fils wasn’t facing similar problems.

“You should be ashamed of yourselves. Have you ever seen me serve and miss a forehand for five hours in a row? It doesn’t happen. I cannot see the ball. I don’t know how he sees the ball,” Tsitsipas said.

Although the Greek eventually managed to get on the board, he racked up 28 unforced errors and failed to mount a real challenge to Fils, who sealed his victory in just 55 minutes. The Frenchman also extended his perfect winning record against Tsitsipas to 5-0 and advanced to the Round of 16 in Miami.

Fils was left in awe of his own performance during his post-interview, as he described his level as “insane” and expressed his hope to continue the momentum for the remainder of the tournament.

“I have played some great matches before, but this level was insane,” Fils said. “I don’t know what to say, but very happy with the performance. Hopefully, I can keep this up until the end of the week.”

The 21-year-old, who was forced to cut his 2025 season short and miss the 2026 Australian Open due to a back injury, also made a strong statement about his resurgence, saying, “I am fully back. It feels like I never left. It feels very, very good.”

Following his win over Stefanos Tsitsipas, Arthur Fils will battle it out against Valentin Vacherot for a spot in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open. If he emerges victorious, the Frenchman will face the winner of the match between Tommy Paul and Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
