Sloane Stephens and Jozy Altidore End Marriage After Four Years

Stephens, the 2017 U.S. Open champion, and Altidore, a veteran of multiple World Cup cycles with the United States, first met as children. They crossed paths in the fifth grade while attending middle school in Florida, years before their professional careers placed them in the national spotlight.

The two reconnected in 2016 and began dating. In April 2019, they announced their engagement, and on Jan. 1, 2022, they married in a ceremony at the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort. Stephens wore a custom gown by Israeli designer Galia Lahav, and the guest list reflected their ties to both tennis and soccer.

In her message posted on Instagram Saturday, Stephens wrote, “Jozy and I have decided to end our marriage. With peace, I am navigating this transition with mutual respect and kindly ask for privacy during this time. Thank you for your love, understanding and continued support.”

The announcement came less than two months after the couple marked their fourth wedding anniversary.

The couple did not have children together, though Altidore has a son, Cameron, from a previous relationship. The split comes as Stephens continues her return to the tour following an injury-disrupted 2025 season. During recovery, she remained active in the sport as a broadcaster for ESPN and TNT.

What Impact Did Stephens’ Ankle Injury Have on Her 2025-26 Season?

After a second-round exit at Wimbledon in 2024, Stephens endured a 13-match losing streak, hampered by a persistent right ankle injury that sidelined her from several major tournaments. Her 2026 campaign began with a first-round defeat to Renata Zarazua at the ASB Classic in Auckland, 5-7, 6-4, 2-6.

Ranked No. 1097, Stephens did not gain direct entry into the Australian Open and instead advanced through qualifying, defeating Barbora Palicova, Olivia Gadecki, and Lucia Bronzetti to reach the main draw. Her run ended with a 6(7)-7, 2-6 loss to Karolina Pliskova.
