Serena Williams’ Daughter Olympia Labeled ‘Grand Princess’ by Father Alexis Ohanian After the Tennis Legend’s Spanish Honor

Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, called daughter Olympia a 'grand princess' after the tennis legend received the Princess of Asturias Award.

Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, recently referred to their eldest daughter, Olympia, as a “grand princess.” Ohanian gave the eight-year-old this title after Williams received the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award in the sports category, honoring her achievements in tennis.

Williams met Ohanian in a hotel in Rome in 2015 while she was in the city for the Italian Open. The couple became engaged in 2016 at the same hotel. They welcomed their first child, a daughter named Olympia, on September 1, 2017, and got married at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans in November 2017. In August 2023, they welcomed their second daughter, Adira River Ohanian.

Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian Calls Daughter Olympia ‘Grand Princess’ After Tennis Legend Is Honored by Spain

Williams received the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, which was held at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo, Spain. She became the fifth tennis player to receive this prestigious honor, following Martina Navratilova (1994), Arantxa Sánchez Vicario (1998), Steffi Graf (1999), and Rafael Nadal (2008).

At the ceremony, Williams was presented the award by Leonor, the Crown Princess of Asturias, with other members of the Spanish royal family in attendance, including King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, and the Crown Princess’s younger sister, Infanta Sofía.

After the award ceremony, Williams shared a series of pictures on social media, flaunting her look for the event. Under that post, Ohanian commented that she was now officially a “princess.”

In light of this event, Ohanian recently took to social media to share a picture of Olympia and playfully questioned whether Williams’s new status as a “Spanish princess” meant that Olympia was now a “grand princess.”

The tech entrepreneur mentioned that he had told Olympia about her new title and stated that this label would have to become a thing, even if it were not an official designation.

“If my wife is now a Spanish princess, does that make our daughter a “grandprincess?” How does that work? 🥰 I’ve already told Olympia she’s a “grandprincess,” so I guess it’s gonna have to become a thing, even if it’s not a thing,” Ohanian posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

On the tennis side of things, Williams turned professional in 1995. During her career, she won a total of 39 Grand Slam titles: 23 in singles, including seven titles each at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, six at the US Open, and three at the French Open.

She claimed 14 Grand Slam titles in doubles alongside her sister, Venus Williams, and also secured two mixed doubles Major titles.

Williams achieved the World No. 1 ranking in the WTA rankings for both singles and doubles. Additionally, she won four Olympic medals for her country, three in doubles and one in singles, among many other accolades.

The former World No. 1 retired from professional tennis in 2022, after competing at the US Open, where she lost to Ajla Tomljanović in the third round.
