Serena Williams is using her platform to shed light on the value of self-care after sharing a candid reflection about her recent struggles. The 23-time Grand Slam champion revealed that while her summer began on a high note, it quickly turned into a challenging August, one that tested her spirit and required her to pause and prioritize her mental well-being.
What Message Did Serena Williams Share With Her Followers?
In her Instagram post, Williams shared four glamorous photos of herself in a red silk dress with pointed silver heels against a backdrop of towering bookshelves. She admitted that the past month had been tough, writing:
“My summer started out well but I was plunged into a difficult August. Like many of you, I faced challenges that tested my spirit and resilience. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming and it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters, your mental health and well-being.”
She added that she intentionally took time to “breathe” and reconnect with herself, reminding her followers that even small acts of self-care, such as a quiet evening alone, can make a difference.

The 43-year-old also reflected on finding peace in the present moment. “I’ve learned that the end of a matter is better than its beginning. And even though things haven’t reached their end yet, I’m also learning to let go and live life one moment at a time,” she wrote.
In a lighter tone, she ended her caption by admiring her outfit, joking, “The only thing I’m dealing with in this moment here is how good this dress looks against first editions. How was your summer?”
Williams Is Finding New Avenues to a Meaningful Life After Retirement
Since stepping away from professional tennis in 2022, the former World No. 1 has focused on family life, business ventures, and advocacy, but her latest message shows that even the strongest athletes face difficult moments. By opening up, Williams adds her voice to the growing conversation about mental health in sports, echoing what stars like Naomi Osaka and Simone Biles have shared in recent years.
Williams concluded her caption with #LadySerenaOfStocktonStreet, promoting her upcoming podcast with sister Venus, titled Stockton Street, named after the street where they grew up in Compton, California. Debuting on Sept. 17, 2025, the show will air every other Wednesday on X.
The first episode was filmed at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, a venue where both sisters enjoyed some of their greatest US Open triumphs. The podcast will give fans an inside look at their journey, covering everything from career highs and lows to sibling rivalry.
