Serena Williams recently jokingly expressed her discontent with her sister Venus Williams partnering with Leylah Fernandez for the women’s doubles event at the 2025 US Open. The Williams sisters last played a doubles match together at the New York Major in 2022 and they lost in the first round to the pair of Linda Nosková and Lucie Hradecká.
Throughout their careers, the Williams sisters won 14 doubles Grand Slam titles, three Olympic gold medals, and achieved the World No. 1 ranking in doubles, among many other accolades.
Serena Williams Hilariously Reacts to Venus Williams to Partnering With Leylah Fernandez at US Open 2025
At the 2025 US Open, Venus Williams partnered with Fernandez, receiving a wild card entry into the main draw. They kicked off their campaign by defeating the sixth-seeded team of Lyudmyla Kichenok and Ellen Perez with a score of 7-6(4), 6-3 in the first round.
The American-Canadian duo then triumphed over Ulrikke Eikeri and Eri Hozumi, winning 7-6(1), 6-1 in the second round. They are set to face either the British pair of Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal or the 12th-seeded duo of Ekaterina Alexandrova and Zhang Shuai in the third round.

Recently, the younger Williams sister, Serena, took to social media to share a humorous video, seemingly expressing her offense at Venus teaming up with Fernandez for the women’s doubles event.

During a post-match on-court interview at the New York Major, Venus had praised Fernandez, calling her the best doubles partner she has had, aside from her sister.
“She’s the best partner I ever played with besides Serena. We play the same style. I’m just a little bit bigger,” Williams said.

Before her comeback this year, Williams had previously stated that she had retired from playing doubles and would only compete in that format alongside her sister, Serena.
“When Serena retired, I retired from doubles as well. When you have Serena Williams as a partner you have seen the glory at the mountaintop, you can’t go any higher!,” Venus Williams previously expressed.
In addition to her doubles campaign with Fernandez at the 2025 US Open, Williams also competed in the singles and mixed doubles events. She received a wild card into the main draw for the singles but lost in the first round to the 11th seed, Karolína Muchová, with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 1-6.
In mixed doubles, the former World No. 1 teamed up with compatriot Reilly Opelka, and they were eliminated in the first round by Andrey Rublev and Muchová, losing 4-3, 5-4(4).
