Rory McIlroy made history by winning the Masters for a second year in a row on Sunday. Tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, as well as the legendary Chris Evert, were among the many who sent congratulatory messages to the Northern Irishman.
McIlroy fended off a late charge from Scottie Scheffler to win the sixth Major of his career. The 36-year-old became only the fourth player in history to go back-to-back at the Masters, after Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Sir Nick Faldo.
Tennis Stars Congratulate Rory McIlroy for Masters Triumph
Golf fans around the world hailed McIlroy’s performance following his triumph at Augusta National on Sunday. He also earned the praise of many in the tennis world, who hailed him for his resilience.
Evert praised the way McIlroy handled four days of intense competition at the Masters. The 18-time Grand Slam champion felt that McIlroy was “calm” throughout the Major, which helped him come out on top.

Djokovic and Alcaraz also sent messages congratulating McIlroy on his Masters triumph. Both players are big golf fans, and the former even participated in the 2023 Ryder Cup All-Star Match.
“Many congrats,” wrote Alcaraz.
“Back to back Master,” wrote Djokovic.

McIlroy is also a big tennis fan and revealed after his round on Friday that he would be watching the semifinals of the Monte-Carlo Masters during his downtime at the Masters.
“There’s actually two really good semifinals at Monte-Carlo in the tennis. So I’ll watch that. It’ll be [Jannik] Sinner and [Alexander] Zverev. And [Valentin] Vacherot and Alcaraz. So I’ll watch those. We’ve been watching the tennis early in the mornings,” he said during a press conference.
Sinner and Alcaraz prevailed in their semifinal matches at the Monte-Carlo Masters. In the final, it was the Italian who came out on top and won the ATP Masters 1000 tournament. With his victory, Sinner also overtook Alcaraz as the world’s top-ranked player in the ATP Rankings.

Alcaraz will have the opportunity to retain his world No. 1 ranking this week as he competes in the Barcelona Open, where he was beaten by Holger Rune in the final last year. Meanwhile, Sinner is not playing this week, and Djokovic is currently sidelined with an injury.
