Roger Federer Opens Up About His 4 Children – ‘Their Life’s Been Turned Upside Down From the First Day’

Since announcing his retirement in September 2022, 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has thoroughly enjoyed his life off the court. The Swiss maestro spends quality time with his four kids and wife, Mirka, and also headlines various fan events. He has increased his brand value with lucrative partnerships globally.

Federer married his longtime girlfriend and former WTA player Mirka in Basel, Switzerland, on April 11, 2009. After welcoming a set of identical twin girls, the duo experienced parenthood for the first time in 2009. Five years after that, the duo welcomed twin boys, making them a happy family of six.

What Did Roger Federer Say About His Four Children?

Federer sat down with NotYouCountryClub for an exclusive NYC sit-down interview to discuss the launch of his new racket, his family, and the sport he loves dearly. While the Swiss legend shed some light on his brand portfolios, the new racket, and life after retiring from tennis, he also extensively discussed his kids’ lives.

Federer said, “Oh, I was different. I mean, at 15, I was gone from home. My girls are still at home. Obviously, they have had a completely different upbringing, whereas I was home. I walked to school every day, and things were very different.”

He added, “My girls and my boys did a bunch of homeschooling, and we were on the road. And, I mean, their life has been turned upside down from the first day. So I think they’ve had the most exciting life, but also something that’s not the most simple. But, I think overall it’s been fantastic.”

Federer concluded, “And in terms of tennis, one of my boys, Leo, he’s playing some tennis tournaments. And then Mila, Charlene, and Lenny they’re a little less into the game. But they all play. Like they all ski and they all play golf. So I’m happy. We are a sporty family, and it’s good to get out there and do some sports, not just tennis.”

What Did Federer Say About Taking Inputs From His Kids Into Designing the RF01?

Talking about the racket, Federer reflected on the inputs he received from his kids while the ideation process was underway to design the RF01. He said, “Well, I mean, they want crazy colors, you know? So I had to always dial it back. OK, I like the idea, but maybe we can use that as a, how do you say, as a power drop, you know, an energy drop rather than actually the real original RF01.”

He added, “The RF01, we need to be a little bit more solid, you know? It needs to be in line with the old RF97. So, but actually it’s fun having, 10-year-olds or 15-year-olds. Before it was obviously, they were a little younger as I was embarking on the project of racket testing.”

Federer concluded, “But it’s fun having them around because I can go to them and ask them, What do you guys like? What would you wear, or what would you appreciate in a racket design? I mean, obviously, the feel and stuff, I got to make sure that I get that right. But, yeah, so sometimes little, they give me inspiration for sure.”
