Reilly Opelka vs Zizou Bergs Preview
Reilly Opelka will take on Zizou Bergs for a place in the final of the Libéma Open. Whoever wins, will face either second seed Ugo Humbert or Gabriel Diallo in the title clash.
Opelka entered the qualifying round of the Libéma Open after a second-round exit at the French Open. The American beat Denis Yevseyev but was unable to defeat Mark Lajal in the final round. However, he still managed to reach the main draw of the ATP 250 event as a lucky loser and started by edging out Jesper de Jong 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 6-2.
Opelka then faced Nicolas Jarry and triumphed 7-6(5), 6-3 to set up a quarterfinal clash with top seed Daniil Medvedev. The two played a couple of tightly-contested sets in an hour and 38 minutes, with the American triumphing 7-6(5), 7-6(5) to book his place in the semifinals.
Zizou Bergs has won 20 out of 32 matches so far in the 2025 season, reaching the final of the ASB Classic and the semifinals of a couple of ATP 250 tournaments. The Belgian’s run at the Libéma Open has been anything but smooth, as he has had three tough fixtures.
Bergs started his campaign by overcoming compatriot Alexander Blockx 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(3) before edging out fourth seed Alexander Popyrin 6-7(3), 6-2, 7-6(3) to set up a quarterfinal clash with Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal. The match was tightly-contested, and the Belgian bagged his first straight-set win of the tournament (7-6(2), 7-6(4)) to book his place in the semifinals of the Libéma Open.
Reilly Opelka vs Zizou Bergs Head-to-Head
The only encounter between the two came in the first round of last year’s Winston-Salem Open, with Bergs winning 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(1).
Reilly Opelka vs Zizou Bergs Prediction
While Bergs has beaten Opelka before, the American’s big-serving game is suitable for grass, and he will have an edge entering the match. Opelka has served 55 aces in his three main-draw matches at the Libéma Open, and will look to fetch many more free points against Bergs.
The Belgian has a decent serve, that has fetched him 20 aces at ‘s-Hertogenbosch. However, he has also served 26 double faults and cannot afford to have too many of those against Opelka.
Bergs’ return game will have to as flawless as possible if he is to stand a chance of putting pressure on the American on his serve. The Belgian is a very good mover on court and will look to be aggressive from the start of the fixture.
If Opelka can continue his good run of form, he should be able to get the netter of the Belgian and reach the final of the Libéma Open.
Prediction: Opelka to win in three sets.
