Paula Badosa Pulls No Punches in Clapping Back at Criticism Over Her Injury Withdrawals

Paula Badosa has revealed how she feels about persistent scrutiny in light of her tournament withdrawals.

Paula Badosa hit back at the criticism directed at her because of her persistent withdrawals due to injuries. The Spaniard broke out on the WTA Tour through some impressive performances in the early 2020s that saw her reach a career-high ranking of World No. 2.

However, injury issues saw her fall down in the rankings before she had a period of resurgence in 2024. Badosa has had a few decent performances so far in 2025, but she has already faced some injury issues that have seen her withdraw from matches and tournaments.

Paula Badosa Made Her Feelings Known On People Criticizing Her Over Withdrawals

In a recent interview with Eurosport, Paula Badosa was asked how she felt about the unceasing scrutiny in light of her withdrawals. The Spaniard responded by saying that critics don’t recognize her behind-the-scenes difficulties, which affects her.

“Honestly, it really bothers me. People don’t know what I’m going through. I don’t mind people telling me other things. I know what I do and how exposed I am. But that really p*sses me off because no one knows what my team and I are going through,” she said.

Badosa also spoke about what drives her to play tennis, citing her love for the sport and her dream of winning a Grand Slam someday. The 27-year-old said that her semifinal run at the 2025 Australian Open increased her desire to win a Major.

“First, there’s the love of tennis… and well, I admit I still dream of a Grand Slam. This year I came close to it, so now I want it even more. I’m going to keep pushing all my life, even knowing there are players out there who are making a difference. Despite these injuries, I’ve been able to prove that, even when I’m healthy, I’m one of the best in the world. That makes me wonder: why can’t I be the next one if I’m in shape?” Badosa said.
