Novak Djokovic vs Zachary Svajda Preview — Head-to-Head and Prediction for US Open 2025

Novak Djokovic will look to book his spot in the third round of the US Open.

Novak Djokovic had a good start to his US Open campaign with a straight-set win over Learner Tien. Waiting for the Serb in the second round, is another American in Zachary Svajda. The 22-year-old had to go through the qualifiers to book his place in the main draw of the New York Major and won his first match at a Grand Slam since 2021 with a 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 win over Hungarian qualifier Zsombor Piros.

Djokovic is competing in his first tournament since his Wimbledon semifinal defeat to Jannik Sinner while Svajda came to New York after failing to qualify for the main draw of the Cincinnati Open.

Djokovic vs. Svajda Prediction

Djokovic will enter the match as the heavy favorite to win and Svajda will no doubt have a tough day on court. The Serb has been very selective about his schedule but his level has been good enough to make three Major semifinals this year, something he might consider well below his lofty standards.

Djokovic has faced more than his fair share of fitness issues over the past couple of years, and his movement has not been as good as we have seen at his dominant best. So, his most effective strategy might be attacking from the start of the match and finish points as early as he can. The Serb won 43 out of 60 points on his first serve while serving seven aces during his match against Tien. However, he produced 34 unforced errors, which was more than his 26 winners.

Svajda’s first serve was crucial for him during his opening-round match against Piros, winning 39 out of 49 points and serving 14 aces. The 22-year-old will look to fetch as many free points as he can against Djokovic. Apart from being at his best, extending points as much as he can will be crucial if Svajda is to stand a ghost of a chance of putting up a tough fight.

The American put on an impressive show in his first-round match but Djokovic looks too good at the moment to have much of a problem against him.

Prediction: Djokovic to win in three sets.
