Novak Djokovic has recently reflected on his future goals, which are centred on defending his Olympic gold medal in singles at the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. The Serbian legend, who is gearing up for his 2026 professional season at the age of 38, has also reflected that he will continue his on-court action until he feels physically able to play at an elite level, while sharing wise words by WTA legend Billie Jean King.
Novak Djokovic Aims To Achieve More Historic Feats With 2028 LA Olympics
The Belgrade, Serbia, native is already defying odds with his current form and physicality, considering his age, and the achievements he collected in his 2025 season. Apart from etching his name in history by becoming the oldest player to reach all four Grand Slam semifinals in a year, Djokovic also added two titles to his growing list, which now stands at 101.
His desire for excellence also led him to qualify for the ATP Finals for the record-tying 18th time; however, he remained absent from the season-ending tournament due to a shoulder injury. Djokovic’s determination to clinch his 25th Grand Slam title and other feats is certainly not over, as during his conversation at the World Sport Summit in Dubai, he once again revealed what truly drives him and how he can ensure his longevity in the sport.
He shared, “I will play at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. These Games are the guiding star for me. There are no limits. I love to compete and as long as I feel good, as long as my body can handle it, as long as I play at a high level, why not? Longevity is not just about sports, but about how you maintain your body, mind, energy, and time.” (via Punto de Break)
He continued, while sharing the iconic King quote, which is honourably displayed in a plaque at the entrance to Arthur Ashe Stadium, “Billie Jean King once said: ‘Pressure is a privilege.’ I have always wanted to meet the world’s expectations. That’s why I am grateful to still be here.”
Djokovic, the co-founder of the Professional Tennis Players Association and the former President of the ATP Player Council, also shared his plans to play an active part in shaping the direction of the sport.
During the same discussion, he also mentioned, “I continue to contribute to tennis. Big changes are on the horizon, and I want to be part of them. I care a lot about how the new generations perceive me, not only because of my results but also because of my character and values.”
Djokovic will start his 2026 season with the Adelaide International, the ATP 250 hard-court outdoor tournament, which is scheduled from Jan. 12 to 17, along with elite players Tommy Paul, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Jiří Lehečka, and others.
