Novak Djokovic recently shared his experience about the mid-match illness he experienced during the first round outing at Wimbledon. The Serb marked it as one of the feelings he incurred in a while, along with cherishing the fact that the medical support instantly made him feel better, resulting in a four-setter victory.
Novak Djokovic Opens up on the Mid-Match Sickness
Djokovic battled through a concerning physical issue to reach the Wimbledon second round. The seven-time Wimbledon champion began his campaign for a record 25th Grand Slam title by beating French player Alexandre Muller 6-1, 6-7 (7-9), 6-2, 6-2 on Centre Court.
While he returned to court after receiving quick medical attention, the reporters couldn’t back down from asking his experience about the same. The Serb, marking it as one of the most troubling issues he had in a long time, said:
“It went from my absolute best feeling, best game, in the first set, many break chances to break in the second to my worst, absolute worst feeling, in a long time. Had issues with the stomach and my energy completely dropped and I was just trying to survive on the court for for quite some time.”
“And then uh after a while the energy came back and I could go back playing from the baseline the way I played in the first set,” he added.
Currently chasing a record 25th Grand Slam title, Djokovic will now compete against Dan Evans in his second round match.

While many doubted Djokovic’s ambitions to keep growing his already-successful career, he recently made his intentions clear. On being asked if he has hopes to excel in the ongoing event, the Serb nodded, along with marking the arena that blessed him with most consistent results.
“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think I had a chance. I think I always have a chance, I think I earned my right to really feel like I can go all the way to the title. I have had the most consistent success here at Wimbledon,” he said.
