Naomi Osaka’s Ex-Boyfriend Cordae Opens Up About How Daughter Shai Wakes Him Up in the Morning
Cordae, 28, recently took to social media to share what he considers his “greatest flex” as a father. He mentioned that every day, Shai wakes him up with a “big ole smile” on her face, which he treasures.
“My greatest flex is that my daughter wakes me up every morning with a big ole smile on her face 🤩 ❤️,” Cordae wrote on his Instagram story.

On the tennis side of things, Osaka was scheduled to begin her 2026 season at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand, where she finished as the runner-up to Clara Tauson in 2025. However, she withdrew from the WTA 250 hard-court tournament to represent Japan in the United Cup in Australia.
In the United Cup, Japan was placed in Group E alongside Greece and the United Kingdom. During the group stage matches, Osaka lost to Greece’s Maria Sakkari, and her team faced a 3-0 defeat. Against the British squad, Japan lost 2-1, with their sole win coming from Osaka, who defeated Katie Swan in a singles match, securing Japan’s only point in the tournament.

Following the conclusion of her 2026 United Cup campaign, Osaka is set to compete in the Australian Open, a tournament she has won twice: in 2019 and 2021. The Grand Slam tournament is scheduled to take place from January 12 to January 26, 2026, at Melbourne Park, with the main draw matches starting on January 18.
In 2024, at the Melbourne Major, Osaka began her campaign by defeating Caroline Garcia in the first round. She then eliminated the 20th seed, Karolína Muchová, to advance to the third round. There, she faced Belinda Bencic and lost the first set 6-7 (3). She then withdrew from the match before the second set due to an abdominal strain.
In the 2019 Australian Open, the four-time Grand Slam champion overcame the likes of Magda Linette, Tamara Zidanšek, Hsieh Su-wei, Anastasija Sevastova, Elina Svitolina, and Karolína Plíšková to secure her place in the final. There, Osaka defeated Petra Kvitová, claiming her first Melbourne Major title and her second Grand Slam title overall.
In 2021, Osaka defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Garcia, Ons Jabeur, Garbiñe Muguruza, Su-wei, and Serena Williams to reach the final. In the championship match, she triumphed over Jennifer Brady, securing her second Melbourne Major title and her fourth Grand Slam title overall.
