Naomi Osaka Shares the Heartwarming Messages She Receives From Daughter Shai After Matches

In Jan. 2023, Osaka announced that she was pregnant with her first child with her ex-boyfriend, Cordae. The couple welcomed their daughter, Shai, on July 2, 2023. The four-time singles Grand Slam champion recently took to social media and shared a video of Shai cheering for her, expressing how “proud” she is of Osaka and her performance in a match.

“Hi mommy! Hi mommy! You played good. I’m so proud of you. Bye,” Shai said.

Osaka mentioned that Shai sends her these adorable video messages to listen to after her matches, which leave Osaka “overwhelmed with love.”

“These are the videos I get to listen to after my matches. I feel so overwhelmed with love. ❤️,” Osaka captioned her Instagram story.

On the tennis side of things, Osaka most recently competed at the 2026 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. She was seeded 16th at the tournament and began her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye.

Osaka won her opening match against qualifier Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva with a score of 7-5, 6-2, and then defeated Camila Osorio with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in the third round. Her run at Tennis Paradise ended in the fourth round when she lost to the eventual champion and top seed, Aryna Sabalenka, with a score of 2-6, 4-6.

Looking ahead, Osaka is scheduled to compete at the 2026 Miami Open, which will take place from March 15 to March 29, 2026. The matches will be held on the outdoor hard courts at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The former World No. 1 achieved her best result at the tournament in 2022 when she finished as the runner-up to Iga Świątek.

In addition to Osaka, players like Amanda Anisimova, Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, defending champion Sabalenka, and former champion Świątek, among others, are also expected to participate in the WTA 1000 hard-court tournament in Florida.

Osaka is seeded 16th at the 2026 Miami Open and will begin her campaign in the second round after a first-round bye. She will face either Sára Bejlek or a qualifier in her opening match. The winner of this match will advance to the third round to compete against either the 18th seed, Iva Jovic, Paula Badosa, or a qualifier.
